Researchers at IIT Madras developed a patented, cost-effective injectable hydrogel using silk cocoons and seaweed for the treatment of fibrosis and other degenerative conditions. The hydrogel is biodegradable and biocompatible, and it transforms from a liquid into a gel at body temperature, allowing it to adapt to the treatment site. The innovation aims to reduce therapy costs significantly, from around USD 2,000–3,000 to nearly USD 300. It has potential applications in treating pulmonary, liver, kidney, and muscle fibrosis, as well as Sarcopenia. The research was led by Prof. Vignesh Muthuvijayan and Ms Varshiny Gopinath of IIT Madras.

President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar arrived in Gaya, Bihar, on May 30, 2026, for a five-day official visit to India. It marked the first time that a whole pig liver and two pig kidneys were transplanted simultaneously into a human recipient. The Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) App was launched by the Union Health Secretary to strengthen the implementation of tobacco-control regulations in educational institutions across India. The application is designed to monitor compliance with rules that prohibit the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of schools and colleges. Initially introduced as a pilot project in Rajasthan, Meghalaya, and Maharashtra, the app is intended for nationwide rollout. Alongside the app, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for tobacco sample collection was also launched to ensure scientific accuracy and support legal enforcement. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to reduce tobacco use and protect youth from nicotine addiction.

India became the 19th country globally to deploy the advanced SkyCast integrated aviation weather monitoring system with its launch at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Developed under the Mission Mausam initiative, the system enhances aviation safety by providing real-time weather intelligence and short-term nowcasting services. It integrates sophisticated instruments such as a Radar Wind Profiler, Ground-based Fog Aerosol Spectrometer (GFAS), and CL61 Lidar Ceilometer. These technologies monitor atmospheric conditions including wind patterns and boundary-layer dynamics, helping reduce weather-related flight delays and improving the safety of aircraft take-offs and landings.
