Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) handed over the Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Ajit (Yard 1277) to the Indian Coast Guard on August 25, 2026. The vessel was built with more than 65% indigenous content, supporting the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. It is equipped with twin marine diesel engines driving Controllable Pitch Propellers, a first-of-its-kind feature for this class of vessel. ICGS Ajit can exceed 27 knots and has an operational endurance of 1,500 nautical miles. The vessel will undertake coastal patrol, EEZ surveillance, anti-smuggling, search, and rescue missions.

Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) partnered with UNDP India on August 27, 2026, to support 50,000 Safai Mitras and strengthen waste management across 50 cities by 2028. The initiative focuses on formalising livelihoods, improving occupational safety and social security, and promoting the inclusion of women waste workers. HUL’s Project Circular Bharat promotes plastic circularity through financially viable recycling models, while Project Utthaan focuses on social inclusion and dignity for waste workers. The programme also emphasises source-level waste segregation, recovery value chains, and open-source toolkits for government bodies, in coordination with relevant Union ministries.

Tata Capital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Resona Bank on August 24, 2026, to promote business matching and strategic investment collaboration. As part of the partnership, Resona Bank committed US$20 million as a limited partner in the Tata Capital Growth Fund III LP. The fund is managed by Tata Capital and is registered as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund with SEBI. The collaboration aims to facilitate business opportunities and client introductions by leveraging Tata Capital’s network in the Indian market. Tata Capital is a diversified, systemically important non-deposit-taking NBFC and a subsidiary of Tata Sons Private Limited.

Satish Golcha has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of Home Guards, Delhi, and is scheduled to assume charge on October 1, 2026. He is a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. Golcha previously served as the Delhi Police Commissioner from August 22, 2025, to July 17, 2026. He has also served as DGP of Arunachal Pradesh, DG of Tihar Prisons, and Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence). He will succeed Virender Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer, who is due to retire on September 30, 2026. The Home Guards assist civil administration in law and order, traffic management, and disaster response.

Rasonque (daraxonrasib) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 26, 2026, for adults with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Developed by Revolution Medicines, Inc., Rasonque is a RAS inhibitor that targets multiple forms of the RAS protein, a key driver of tumour growth. It is administered as a once-daily tablet and is intended for patients who have received at least one prior systemic therapy and are not candidates for multiagent systemic therapy. In a randomised clinical trial involving 500 adults, the treatment improved median overall survival to 13.2 months compared with 6.7 months with standard chemotherapy.

WAE joined the United Nations Global Compact Network India on August 25, 2026, to align its operations with global sustainability standards. The company committed to the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles covering human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Its sustainability efforts are aligned with five SDGs, including Clean Water and Sanitation, Industry and Innovation, Responsible Consumption, Climate Action, and Partnerships. WAE focuses on circular water systems, atmospheric water generation, and IoT-enabled monitoring to develop decentralised and digitally intelligent water ecosystems. The company will also report its sustainability progress through the Communication on Progress (CoP) framework, promoting transparency and accountability.

Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd. received India’s first compliance certificate for a 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) on August 27, 2026. The certification was granted under AIS-119 and AIS-153 standards in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The bus features a 15-metre multi-axle configuration and offers 42 sleeper berths in its full-sleeper version, while the hybrid variant combines 21 berths with 42 seats. The certification involved specialised testing for structural strength, emergency and fire safety, and passenger comfort, supporting the development of advanced long-distance passenger vehicles in India.

Chennai hosted the 7th High-Level Meeting between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) on August 25, 2026. The meeting aimed to strengthen maritime cooperation and security between India and Vietnam under the 2015 Memorandum of Understanding on Coast Guard Cooperation. Discussions covered Maritime Search and Rescue, maritime law enforcement, marine pollution response, capacity building, professional exchanges, and previous ship visits. The two sides also planned the bilateral maritime exercise SAHYOG-HOPTAC, scheduled to be conducted at sea on August 27, 2026. Chennai’s strategic location on India’s eastern coast makes it an important centre for maritime cooperation.

August 23 to 27 was the period during which World Water Week 2026 was observed. The annual event focused on the theme “Water for People and Progress” and addressed major global challenges related to water management, sanitation, freshwater resources, and climate resilience. Discussions also covered future international cooperation on water and implementation of the UNECE/WHO Protocol on Water and Health. World Water Week has been organised annually since 1991 by the Stockholm International Water Institute and was originally launched as the Stockholm Water Symposium. The event also served as a precursor to the UN Water Conference scheduled in Abu Dhabi in December 2026.
