India was ranked 127th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2026, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). India recorded an overall score of 2.409 and slipped three places compared to the previous year. The ranking reflects factors such as internal security challenges, communal conflicts, and border security concerns. Iceland retained the 1st rank for the 19th consecutive year since 2008, achieving a score of 1.161 and continuing its position as the world's most peaceful nation. The index assesses countries across indicators related to societal safety and security, ongoing conflict, and militarisation, with lower scores indicating higher levels of peace.

India and France officially adopted the Innovation Roadmap 2030 on June 15, 2026, to deepen cooperation under their Special Global Strategic Partnership. The roadmap provides a framework for collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital innovation, research, and startup ecosystems through 2030. Key initiatives include the promotion of Trusted AI, expansion of academic exchanges, and a target for France to welcome 30,000 Indian students by 2030. The Headquarters Directorate General NCC approved the establishment of independent State Directorates for Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand on June 15, 2026. With this expansion, the total number of NCC State Directorates in India increased from 17 to 19. Switzerland rejected a referendum proposal that sought to cap the country's population at 10 million by the year 2050. In the referendum held on June 14, 2026, 54.79% of voters opposed the initiative, while 45.21% supported it, with a voter turnout of 58.86%. The proposal, backed by the Swiss People’s Party (SVP), also called for stricter residency and asylum measures and the possible termination of the Freedom of Movement agreement with the European Union if population thresholds were exceeded. At the time, Switzerland's population stood at approximately 9.1 million, with foreign nationals accounting for nearly 28% of residents. India's merchandise exports rose by 18% year-on-year to reach $45.2 billion in May 2026, reflecting strong performance in the country's external trade sector. During the same month, merchandise imports increased by 20.62% to $73.41 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $28.21 billion. For the April–May 2026-27 period, total exports stood at $88.91 billion, registering a growth rate of 16.09% over the corresponding period of the previous year. Telangana launched a state-wide breakfast scheme on June 15, 2026, benefiting students from pre-primary classes up to Class 12 in government schools and junior colleges. Uttar Pradesh launched the Mukhyamantri Shikshak Cashless Chikitsa Yojana to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage for teachers, education department employees, and their dependent family members. The scheme offers cashless medical treatment of up to ₹5 lakh annually through empanelled government and private hospitals. Around 3.5 lakh beneficiaries were identified for the initial rollout. The initiative is being implemented by the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), which serves as the nodal agency for health insurance and cashless treatment programs in the state. A dedicated digital portal has also been developed to streamline beneficiary registration, card generation, and hospital integration for efficient service delivery.
