If a person walks at 14 km/hr instead of 10 km/hr, he would have walked 20 km more. The actual distance travelled by him is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the actual distance travelled be x km.
Then, | x | = | x + 20 |
10 | 14 |
14x = 10x + 200
4x = 200
x = 50 km.

@All.
14-10 = 4km/hr.
4km/hr = 20km travelled.
so 1hr = 5km,
then 10km/hr = 10 * 5 = 50.
14-10 = 4km/hr.
4km/hr = 20km travelled.
so 1hr = 5km,
then 10km/hr = 10 * 5 = 50.

According to me;
1st hour 10 = 14,
2nd hour 20 = 28,
3rd hour 30 = 42,
4th hour 40 = 56,
5th hour 50 = 70,
IF IN ONE HOUR HE IS DOING 14, THEN IN THE FIFTH HOUR (14*5=60) TIMES UP.
At speed 10 kmph he reaches 50 km at the same time if he travels in 14 kmph he would reach 70 km.
So, 70 - 50 = 20. I think u got it.
OR
14-10 = 4km/hr.
4km/hr = 20km travelled.
so 1hr = 5km,
then 10km/hr = 10 * 5 = 50.

then 10km/hr = 10 * 5 = 50.

Both are travelling at different speed but in the same amount of time.
So, if x is the distance travelled by A, then the time taken by A is x/10. then time = distance/speed.
And time taken by B is (x+20)/14.
Both A and B took same time so x/10=(x+20)/14.
By solving we get x=50.
So, if x is the distance travelled by A, then the time taken by A is x/10. then time = distance/speed.
And time taken by B is (x+20)/14.

Why is there x/10?

The another method.
Let's, time will be t.
so, 14t-10t=20,
or. 4t=20,
or, t=5.
so, the total distance is 5*0 = 50.
Let's, time will be t.
so, 14t-10t=20,
or. 4t=20,
or, t=5.
so, the total distance is 5*0 = 50.

It's based on per hour that means time is constant. And when time is constant distance and speed will be directly proportional.
Speed : 14 : 10
=> 7:5.
Since distance is directly proportional.
Its ratio also will be 7:5
20 more means the difference of 7-5.

Distance= (a/x-y) * y.
a=20km
X=14 KMPH.
Y=10 KMPH.
(20KM/14KMPH-10KMPH) * 10KMPH.
(20KM/4KMPH) * 10KMPH.
So, the answer is 50KM.
a=20km
X=14 KMPH.
Y=10 KMPH.
(20KM/14KMPH-10KMPH) * 10KMPH.
(20KM/4KMPH) * 10KMPH.
So, the answer is 50KM.
