Bihar is home to the world's oldest accurately dated banyan tree, located in Munger and estimated to be around 700 years old. Scientists from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Lucknow, determined its age using radiocarbon dating of wood samples analysed through Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. The research confirmed that the tree predates nearby historical structures and is a surviving remnant of an ancient natural forest. The findings, published in the international journal Quaternary Research, represent a significant achievement in botanical and environmental research, as banyan trees lack annual growth rings, making age determination particularly challenging.

World Zoonoses Day is observed every year on July 6 to raise global awareness about zoonotic diseases, which are infections that transmit between animals and humans. This specific date holds historical significance because it commemorates the successful administration of the first rabies vaccine by French microbiologist Louis Pasteur on July 6, 1885. Pasteur's groundbreaking vaccination saved the life of a young boy bitten by a rabid dog and marked a monumental milestone in medical science, laying the foundation for modern vaccine development against infectious diseases. The Bukhman International Booker Prize is the new name of the International Booker Prize following a decade-long funding commitment by Bukhman Philanthropies.
