The India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) celebrated its 15th Foundation Day in New Delhi on June 17, 2026. Established in 2011 as the training arm of the Election Commission of India, IIIDEM plays a crucial role in strengthening election management and democratic processes. The institute has conducted 1,885 training programmes and reached more than 1.2 lakh participants across 142 countries. During the celebration, a conference on capacity building and strategic planning was organised, highlighting its focus on national and global training initiatives, research, knowledge development, and the promotion of sustainable democracy and effective election management practices.

The newly identified forester moth species, Mimeusemia kali, was discovered in the Kali Tiger Reserve located in Karnataka. The discovery was made by researchers from the Zoological Survey of India in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London. This finding is particularly significant because it represents the first addition to the genus Mimeusemia in nearly three decades. The species belongs to the Noctuidae family and contributes to India's biodiversity records. Forester moths are important ecological indicators and pollinators, helping maintain ecosystem balance. The Kali Tiger Reserve, situated in the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats, provides a vital habitat for numerous rare and endemic species.

France is set to inaugurate its first traditional stone-built Hindu temple in September 2026, marking a significant milestone for the Indian diaspora and cultural heritage in Europe. The temple has been constructed using natural stones sourced from India, with its components crafted in India and later transported and assembled in France by specialised teams. The project is associated with the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, a global Hindu spiritual organisation known for constructing traditional temples worldwide. A 15-day consecration programme is planned for the inauguration. The development highlights the growing cultural presence of the Indian community in France and strengthens people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Scientists at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST) in Mohali developed an innovative electrolyte additive named BDIM to improve the performance and lifespan of Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries (AZIBs). The additive helps reduce corrosion, suppress hydrogen evolution reactions, and prevent zinc dendrite growth, which are major challenges in battery technology. Researchers used advanced analytical techniques such as ultramicroelectrodes and fast-scan cyclic voltammetry to study the additive's effectiveness. Led by Dr Ramendra Sundar Dey, the research was published in ACS Electrochemistry. The technology has significant potential for applications in grid-scale energy storage, renewable energy integration, and reliable backup power systems.

Australia will host Exercise Pitch Black 2026, a major biennial multinational air combat exercise conducted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Scheduled from July 20 to August 7, 2026, the exercise will take place in Australia's Northern Territory and involve more than 100 aircraft along with personnel from 20 participating nations, including the host country. The event is designed to enhance air combat integration, interoperability, and operational coordination among allied and partner air forces across the Indo-Pacific region. Participation by the Indian Air Force reflects India's growing defence cooperation with international partners and provides valuable experience in realistic and complex warfare training environments.

The 4th Cyber Dialogue was conducted between India and the Netherlands in New Delhi to enhance cooperation in cyber security and digital governance. The discussions were held under the India–Netherlands Strategic Partnership Roadmap (2026–2030) and covered important topics such as Artificial Intelligence governance, Digital Public Infrastructure, data protection, cybercrime prevention, and protection of critical information infrastructure. The dialogue also emphasised collaboration between Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and law enforcement agencies. Through such engagements, both countries aim to strengthen cyber resilience, improve digital security frameworks, and promote cooperation on global cyber issues through multilateral platforms and institutional partnerships.

The Jan Kalyan Shivir initiative was launched across the National Capital Territory to provide citizens with easier access to various Central and State Government welfare schemes. Inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the programme was conducted at 42 locations and operated as a three-day outreach campaign from June 18 to June 20, 2026. Bihar received a record annual railway budget allocation exceeding ₹10,000 crore, reflecting the government's focus on strengthening rail infrastructure and connectivity in the state.
