Aptitude - Time and Distance - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Time and Distance - General Questions (Q.No. 3)
3.
If a person walks at 14 km/hr instead of 10 km/hr, he would have walked 20 km more. The actual distance travelled by him is:
50 km
56 km
70 km
80 km
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the actual distance travelled be x km.

Then, x = x + 20
10 14

14x = 10x + 200

4x = 200

x = 50 km.

A:B
14:10
7:5.

Difference is 2parts.
2part=20km{actual difference).
1part=10km.
Multiply B part that is 5*10=50.

I can't catch the concept, since he increased his speed from 10 to 14 so actual distance would have been 14*5=70.

Given data both are speed rate 1h. First take 1h =x/10, and second take 1h=x+20/14. Both are take time 1hour.

Actual distance = xkm.

Simply a person walks 14 km instead 10 km,

So 14-10 = 4.

10*20 = 200.
200/4 = 50;

Ilesh method is good procedure than others because in question there is no clarity that the time is same.

Here time is constant = t;

No old speed = 10 new speed 10*14/10.

D-14/10d = 20.

D = 20*10/4 = 50 km.

S1 : S2 = d1 : d2 = 14 : 10,
Diff 4 parts 20,
1 part 5,

Initially at 10 speed = 10 * 5=50.

He walks 14k/h instead 10k/h.
So he covered 20km in 20÷(14-10)= 5 hr.
So, D= 10* 5 = 50 Km.

But it can be 70 also as it is said actual distance traveled by him x+20 where x is 50+20=70.

Indirect proportion by chain rule.

X:X+20 10:14
Hence X/10 = X+20/14.
So, the answer x=50.
