Ladakh has unveiled twin flower fields at an altitude of 10,600 feet in Choglamsar and Stakna in the Leh district. The project covers 40 acres and features more than 25 lakh flowers, including around 24 lakh Lilium plants and 1 lakh Gladiolus plants. The initiative aims to promote commercial floriculture as an additional source of livelihood for local farmers and diversify agriculture in the high-altitude region. The Agriculture Department will initially manage cultivation before handing over the fields to selected self-help groups and cooperatives. The Choglamsar flower garden is also intended to serve recreational and educational purposes.

Moody’s has revised India’s real GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal year to 7%, up from its previous estimate of 6%. The upward revision reflects the resilience of the Indian economy despite uncertainties arising from the West Asia conflict. Moody’s expects India to grow faster than other G20 economies and emerging market sovereigns with similar credit ratings. Strong domestic growth, investment, and industrial production have supported the positive outlook. However, the agency has also highlighted risks such as elevated global energy prices, food-price pressures linked to El Niño, higher government expenditure, and potential fiscal pressures.

Maharashtra approved an interest subsidy of Rs 738.51 crore for cooperative sugar mills to help them clear Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) dues for the 2025-26 sugar season. Under the scheme, the state government will bear interest costs of up to 10 percent for a loan period of seven years. The subsidy is intended to provide financial support to sugar mills and help them manage their outstanding FRP-related payments. To continue receiving the benefits, the concerned mills are required to submit a loan utilisation certificate by July 2027.

Rs.25,000 per month is the revised wage ceiling approved by the Union Cabinet for mandatory coverage under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The ceiling was increased from Rs.15,000, which had remained unchanged since September 2014. The revision is expected to bring approximately 51 lakh additional employees under mandatory EPFO coverage. These employees will gain access to benefits such as the Employees’ Provident Fund, Employees’ Pension Scheme, and Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme. The government estimates an annual expenditure of Rs.11,339 crore, with the total financial outlay projected at Rs.56,696 crore over five years.

Anant Nag, the veteran Kannada actor, was announced as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024 for his exemplary contribution to Indian cinema. He has appeared in more than 300 films across Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Marathi cinema. Nag also gained widespread recognition for his work in the television series Malgudi Days. He completed 50 years in the film industry in 2023. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest cinema honour and was instituted by the Government of India in 1969. The award recognises outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema.

September 18 is observed annually as World Bamboo Day. The day was established in 2009 by the World Bamboo Organisation (WBO) to raise awareness about the importance and diverse uses of bamboo. Bamboo is recognised as a renewable resource that supports climate action, ecosystem restoration, rural livelihoods, sustainable construction, and the development of a low-carbon economy. World Bamboo Day 2026 focuses on the theme “Bamboo for a Regenerative Future: A Global Call to Grow, Build and Prosper with Nature,” highlighting the potential of bamboo to contribute to environmental, economic, and social development.

West Bengal is set to host a new missile testing range being established by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Junput in the Purba Medinipur district. The facility is planned to supplement the existing Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, thereby expanding India’s capacity for testing missiles and other advanced weapon systems. Located along the coast, the new testing site is expected to strengthen the country’s defence infrastructure and support the evaluation of sophisticated weapon systems. The project reflects efforts to enhance India’s capabilities in defence research, development, and testing.

The United States hosted the 12th iteration of Exercise Eager Lion 2026 at Fort Carson, Colorado, on September 16, 2026. This was the first time the United States hosted the biennial military training exercise, which involves the US Central Command and the Jordanian Armed Forces. More than 200 military personnel from both countries participated, along with National Guard personnel from Colorado and Illinois. The two-week exercise focuses on strengthening collective operational effectiveness through counterterrorism, air defence, maritime security, cybersecurity, and disaster response training. The exercise is conducted under the State Partnership Program, which has linked Colorado and Jordan since 2004.

Tavengwa Mukuhlani, the chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket, has been appointed as the ICC Deputy Chairperson until November 2027. He succeeds Imran Khwaja, who resigned from the ICC Board. Mukuhlani represents Zimbabwe Cricket at the ICC Board and has served on several ICC committees, including the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee and the Nominations Committee. He also heads the HR and Remuneration Committee. His appointment is historic as he becomes the first Zimbabwean to serve as ICC Deputy Chairperson. His tenure coincides with preparations for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup, co-hosted by Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia.

Goa hosted the Third BIMSTEC Conference on Traditional Medicine Knowledge, Genetic Resources, and Intellectual Property Rights, which commenced on September 16, 2026. The two-day conference was organised by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, with the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, serving as the nodal institute. Representatives from all seven BIMSTEC member states participated in the event. Discussions focused on traditional medicine knowledge, documentation through the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library, the use of Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property Rights, genetic resources, and equitable benefit-sharing. The conference also discussed the proposed BIMSTEC Centre of Excellence in Traditional Medicine.
