Article 124(2) empowers the President of India to appoint judges to the Supreme Court. On June 1, 2026, five new judges were appointed to the apex court under this constitutional provision. The appointments included former Chief Justices of various High Courts as well as a Senior Advocate appointed directly from the Bar. The Supreme Court, established on January 28, 1950, is the highest judicial authority in India. Provisions relating to its organisation, composition, powers, and functions are contained in Articles 124 to 147 of the Constitution. The court has a maximum sanctioned strength of 34 judges, including the Chief Justice of India.

3.2% was the year-on-year growth rate recorded in gross GST collections for May 2026. During the month, gross GST revenue reached ₹1.94 lakh crore, reflecting steady growth in tax collections. The increase was supported by higher economic activity, with taxable goods supplies growing by 26.9% and taxable services supplies rising by 22.2%.
