Soma Mandal, an Indian science teacher, was selected as the South Asia regional winner of the 2026 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards for her innovative work in environmental education. The awards are organised by Cambridge University Press & Assessment to recognise outstanding educators from different regions across the world. Winners are chosen based on their impact on students, creativity in teaching, and contribution to education. Soma Mandal was recognized for her practical environmental initiatives that encouraged awareness and learning among students. Uttar Pradesh is being developed as a premium fruit hub through initiatives discussed at the Fruit Horizon 2026 conference held at the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow. The conference focused on improving fruit quality, shelf life, export standards, and achieving “zero rejection” for international markets. A specialized task force involving ICAR institutions, APEDA, exporters, and related agencies will prepare an action plan to increase farmers’ income and strengthen the horticulture sector. South Korea introduced its first humanoid robot monk named Gabi after it completed a traditional Buddhist precept ceremony at the Jogye Temple in Seoul on May 07, 2026. The initiative was organised by the Jogye Order to address the shortage of human monks and attract younger generations toward Buddhism through technology. Developed using China’s Unitree G1 platform, the robot was given symbolic Buddhist elements such as a rosary and a ceremonial burn sticker. Specially modified vows were also designed for the robot, including respecting life, avoiding deception, and saving energy. Gabi is expected to participate in religious and cultural events such as the Yeondeunghoe lantern festival.

The 100th N-Gen Post Office in India was inaugurated at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong, Meghalaya, by Union Minister for Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on May 6, 2026. Skyroot Aerospace became India’s first space-tech unicorn after raising $60 million in a funding round co-led by Sherpalo Ventures and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC. The Hyderabad-based company achieved a valuation of $1.1 billion, marking a major milestone for India’s private space sector. Founded in 2018 by former ISRO engineers Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, Skyroot Aerospace is developing orbital launch vehicles such as Vikram-1 and Vikram-2. The company had earlier achieved success by launching the Vikram-S suborbital rocket in 2022, becoming the first private Indian firm to send a rocket into space.

The 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from July 27 to August 2, 2026, at the Thyagraj Stadium.
