A girl counted in the following way on the fingers of her left hand : She started by calling the thumb 1, the index finger 2, middle finger 3, ring finger 4, little finger 5 and then reversed direction calling the ring finger 6, middle finger 7 and so on. She counted upto 1994. She ended counting on which finger ?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, while counting, the numbers associated to the thumb will be : 1, 9,17, 25,.....
i.e. numbers of the form (8n + 1).
Since 1994 = 249 x 8 + 2, so 1993 shall correspond to the thumb and 1994 to the index finger.

10 is not the index finger because we start our counting from the thumb.
So the answer is the ring finger.
So the answer is the ring finger.

Series for thumb 1, 9, 17, 25, 33.
i.e general term is 8n+1.
1994 divided by 8 gives remainder 2.
So the answer should be INDEX FINGER.

Answer: INDEX FINGER.
Series of numbers on thumb finger:
1,9,17,25..... i.e) (8*0+1), (8*1+1), (8*2+1).......(8*n+1).
Number close to 1994(given in question) that is divisible by 8 is 1992.
i.e) 1992/8 = 249..reminder 0...from this statement it can be written as 8*n, i.e) 8*249=1992.
Now,
1993/8 gives a reminder of 1, from this statement it can be written in the form of 8*n+1 as (8*249+1). So it comes on thumbs.
And the next number, 1994 comes on index finger.

@Arohi,
You reverse the direction when counting, 10 lands on the index finger and 15 lands on the middle finger.

5,10,15.......comes on the little finger.
I.e 5n is on the little finger.
Again 5*399 = 1995 is on the little finger. So obviously 1994 will come on the ring finger.

1994 is divisible by only 2. And hence the index finger.

249*8=1992 it appears on thumb and 1993 comes on index and 1994 on middle finger.
So answer in middle finger if apply 8n+2=(8*249+2)=1994.
So answer in middle finger if apply 8n+2=(8*249+2)=1994.

I agree. It should be middle finger. 1992 is thumb then plus 2 remainder. Therefore, 1992 + 1 = 1993 (index) then 1993 + 1 = 1994 which points to middle finger.

Thumb 1.
Index finger 2.
Middle finger 3.
Ring finger 4.
Little finger 5.
Ring finger 6.
Middle finger 7.
Index finger 8.
Thump 9.
Index finger 10.
So on.
Sequence of numbers with thumb are 1, 9, 17, ....
This series can be represented by (8n + 1) where n = 0, 1, 2.
1994/8 = 249, remainder = 2.
ie => (8 * 249 + 1) = 1993 which represents thump.
Therefore, 1994 represents index finger.
Index finger 2.
Middle finger 3.
Ring finger 4.
Little finger 5.
Ring finger 6.
Middle finger 7.
Index finger 8.
Thump 9.
Index finger 10.
So on.
Sequence of numbers with thumb are 1, 9, 17, ....
This series can be represented by (8n + 1) where n = 0, 1, 2.
1994/8 = 249, remainder = 2.
ie => (8 * 249 + 1) = 1993 which represents thump.
Therefore, 1994 represents index finger.
