8.
A girl counted in the following way on the fingers of her left hand : She started by calling the thumb 1, the index finger 2, middle finger 3, ring finger 4, little finger 5 and then reversed direction calling the ring finger 6, middle finger 7 and so on. She counted upto 1994. She ended counting on which finger ?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, while counting, the numbers associated to the thumb will be : 1, 9,17, 25,.....
i.e. numbers of the form (8n + 1).
Since 1994 = 249 x 8 + 2, so 1993 shall correspond to the thumb and 1994 to the index finger.

(8 * 249 + 1) = 1993 which represents thumb.

Ring finger is the correct answer.
It's only at first instance that all 5 fingers are counted. Then onwards it's only 4 fingers every time. Last set is 249th set.
Odd sets begin with Thumb & end at little finger (249x 8 + 1= 1993).
Hence 1994 will end at Ring finger.

ANS : INDEX FINGER.
4 * 1 = 4 falls on ring finger
4 * 2 = 8 falls on index finger
4 * 3 = 12 falls on ring finger
4 * 4 = 16 falls on index finger and so on
So, (4 * odd number) falls on ring finger and (4 * even number) falls on index finger.
1994 => nearest 4 multiple less than 1994 is 1992 which is 4 * 498 (4 * even number) -> this falls on index finger. So, 1993 falls on thumb and 1994 falls on INDEX FINGER.
4 * 1 = 4 falls on ring finger

Since, Index no. _ 2,8,10,16,......
Middle Finger _ 3,7,11,15,......
So, middle finger is in A.P. with c.d.= 4.
Divide 1994/2 = 498 * 4 + 2.
Now, 1992 falls on the middle finger.
So, increasing +2 we get Index finger.

The answer must be "Ring Finger" because,
One hand can count upto 7 each time. Then, 1994/7 gives 284 as quotient and 6 as remainder. So, after counting 284 time on the same hand, she starts counting again and 1994 will come on the 6th place, that is the ring finger.

Why +1 add in 8n+1?

Correct answer is ring finger. Because thumb is closed when it is 10.
So when it will be 1990 the thumb will be closed and we will start by opening the thumb by 1991, then index finger as 1992, then middle finger as 1993 and ring finger as 1994.
So when it will be 1990 the thumb will be closed and we will start by opening the thumb by 1991, then index finger as 1992, then middle finger as 1993 and ring finger as 1994.

Thumb comes 1,9,17... i.e., after each 8th count.
But for first time we start count from thumb and for remaining all we start count from index finger.
So due to 8th count count we take as 8n.
And for first time we start count from thumb and for remaining all we start from index finger, so we add 1 to it.
Then expression becomes 8n+1.

Your counting pattern is very incomprehensible, after 9, the next figure on the thumb is 14.
How did you get 17? Please explain me.
