Ring finger is correct because we get 4 in unit's place only on it. |

Meenakshi said: (Aug 27, 2011)

Yeah, shu is right, answer should be D, ring finger. |

Jitendra said: (Sep 14, 2011)

Total count for 8 fingers. Therefore, 1994 divided by 8 gives=2 as remainder. Hence 2 finger i.e. index finger. |

Anju said: (Nov 21, 2011)

Yaa you are right. Answer is index finger. |

Sonali Randia said: (Nov 25, 2011)

I divided 1990 by 5(no 5 stops on little finger and no 10 falls on thumb)since little finger not given in options we divide by 5..so we get 1990 on little finger. Now count reverse 1999 wil come on index. |

Jojo Negi said: (Dec 24, 2011)

It should be 8n-7 instead of 8n+1 |

Veens said: (Jul 10, 2012)

I divided 1994 by 4 (except first time we are counting 4 nos for one side) so remainder is 2 we started with thumb 1, the index finger 2, so the answer is index finger. |

Atul Kamble said: (Aug 9, 2012)

The thumb finger gets the value 1,9,17,...etc. So the difference between each is 8. Now dividing 1994 by 8, we get 249.25 as quotient. So selecting nearby value for getting remainder as 0, 1992/8=249 which represents the thumb finger. So adding 2 which will give 1994 & the selection will be middle finger. |

How did we get count 8? Can anyone make it clear. |

Chiso said: (Nov 18, 2013)

Please explain where numbers of the form 8n + 1 come from. I don't understand. |

Mahendra said: (Apr 6, 2014)

The thumb finger gets the value 1, 9, 17, ... etc. So the difference between each is 8. |

Raj said: (May 22, 2014)

How the sequence be 1, 9, 17... Can you please elaborate. First two digits 1 and 9 are correct and later on how 17 will come? |

Piyali said: (Jun 4, 2014)

249 digit how it will come? |

Kavy Saah said: (Jun 19, 2014)

Here Arithmetic progression rule followed : a+(n-1)d nd aftr dat 2a+(n-1)d for calculating sum of and the result will be proceeding of 1 so we extend 1 nd we finally get index which is after thumb. |

Vikas said: (Sep 30, 2014)

1994 may be divide purely by only 2 then at two number position which finger is, the finger is Index finger at second position, which comes after thumb, so answer is Index finger. |

Tist said: (Sep 30, 2014)

Index finger is absolutely right answer. i.e.,(8n+1) is the thumb in this case 1992 is multiplication of 249x8. So (8x249+1)=1993 is thumb then next finger is index finger. |

Kaleem said: (Oct 9, 2014)

Sequence of counting is not clear? |

Nethaji said: (Oct 30, 2014)

Ring finger is the correct answer because 1994/5 = 398+4. You will have remainder 4. Since she started counting from left side and counts back to right side 2 rounds will be completed. I that way 398 is exactly divisible by 2. At present her count should come from left side there remainder is 4 so count 1, 2, 3, 4 from our left side then you get the answer. |

Devarchit Prusty said: (Jan 7, 2015)

As we found the form of the sequence is 8n+1. Then divide 1994 by 8. Resultant is 249 and remainder is 2. So now (n=249)8+2. 2 means 2nd finger 4 index finger. |

Doaa said: (Mar 20, 2015)

Can you please explain the pattern of counting? I am just not getting how you guys are getting (8k+1) at the thumb? |

Danish Mansoori said: (Jun 24, 2015)

Correct answer is ring finger. Because thumb is closed when it is 10. So when it will be 1990 the thumb will be closed and we will start by opening the thumb by 1991, then index finger as 1992, then middle finger as 1993 and ring finger as 1994. |

Mohanraj said: (Sep 19, 2015)

They wrote 8n+2. |

Ahmer said: (Dec 19, 2015)

249*8=1992 it appears on thumb and 1993 comes on index and 1994 on middle finger. So answer in middle finger if apply 8n+2=(8*249+2)=1994. |

Owens said: (Mar 9, 2016)

I agree. It should be middle finger. 1992 is thumb then plus 2 remainder. Therefore, 1992 + 1 = 1993 (index) then 1993 + 1 = 1994 which points to middle finger. |

Pooja Gowda said: (Aug 3, 2016)

Thumb 1. Index finger 2. Middle finger 3. Ring finger 4. Little finger 5. Ring finger 6. Middle finger 7. Index finger 8. Thump 9. Index finger 10. So on. Sequence of numbers with thumb are 1, 9, 17, .... This series can be represented by (8n + 1) where n = 0, 1, 2. 1994/8 = 249, remainder = 2. ie => (8 * 249 + 1) = 1993 which represents thump. Therefore, 1994 represents index finger. |

Aryanjain said: (Nov 12, 2016)

(8 * 249 + 1) = 1993 which represents thumb. |

Ravindra Deshpande said: (Jan 11, 2017)

Ring finger is the correct answer. It's only at first instance that all 5 fingers are counted. Then onwards it's only 4 fingers every time. Last set is 249th set. Odd sets begin with Thumb & end at little finger (249x 8 + 1= 1993). Hence 1994 will end at Ring finger. |

Divya Dharani said: (Mar 11, 2017)

ANS : INDEX FINGER. 4 * 1 = 4 falls on ring finger 4 * 2 = 8 falls on index finger 4 * 3 = 12 falls on ring finger 4 * 4 = 16 falls on index finger and so on So, (4 * odd number) falls on ring finger and (4 * even number) falls on index finger. 1994 => nearest 4 multiple less than 1994 is 1992 which is 4 * 498 (4 * even number) -> this falls on index finger. So, 1993 falls on thumb and 1994 falls on INDEX FINGER. |

Rahul Kumar said: (May 12, 2017)

Since, Index no. _ 2,8,10,16,...... Middle Finger _ 3,7,11,15,...... So, middle finger is in A.P. with c.d.= 4. Divide 1994/2 = 498 * 4 + 2. Now, 1992 falls on the middle finger. So, increasing +2 we get Index finger. |

Sumit Krishn said: (Aug 27, 2017)

The answer must be "Ring Finger" because, One hand can count upto 7 each time. Then, 1994/7 gives 284 as quotient and 6 as remainder. So, after counting 284 time on the same hand, she starts counting again and 1994 will come on the 6th place, that is the ring finger. |

Garima said: (Sep 18, 2017)

Why +1 add in 8n+1? |

Sharmila said: (Oct 17, 2017)

1994 is divisible by only 2. And hence the index finger. |

Kinjal Jain said: (Jun 7, 2018)

How come 8 hete? |

Swapnil Bombe said: (Jul 7, 2018)

Thumb comes 1,9,17... i.e., after each 8th count. But for first time we start count from thumb and for remaining all we start count from index finger. So due to 8th count count we take as 8n. And for first time we start count from thumb and for remaining all we start from index finger, so we add 1 to it. Then expression becomes 8n+1. |

Nivedita said: (Aug 7, 2018)

Answer: INDEX FINGER. Series of numbers on thumb finger: 1,9,17,25..... i.e) (8*0+1), (8*1+1), (8*2+1).......(8*n+1). Number close to 1994(given in question) that is divisible by 8 is 1992. i.e) 1992/8 = 249..reminder 0...from this statement it can be written as 8*n, i.e) 8*249=1992. Now, 1993/8 gives a reminder of 1, from this statement it can be written in the form of 8*n+1 as (8*249+1). So it comes on thumbs. And the next number, 1994 comes on index finger. |

Arohi said: (Sep 6, 2019)

5,10,15.......comes on the little finger. I.e 5n is on the little finger. Again 5*399 = 1995 is on the little finger. So obviously 1994 will come on the ring finger. |

Raelas said: (Jul 11, 2020)

@Arohi, You reverse the direction when counting, 10 lands on the index finger and 15 lands on the middle finger. |

Debjit said: (Feb 6, 2021)

Series for thumb 1, 9, 17, 25, 33. i.e general term is 8n+1. 1994 divided by 8 gives remainder 2. So the answer should be INDEX FINGER. |

Supi said: (Oct 27, 2021)

Your counting pattern is very incomprehensible, after 9, the next figure on the thumb is 14. How did you get 17? Please explain me. |
