Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two assumptions numbered I and II. You have to consider the statement and the following assumptions and decide which of the assumptions is implicit in the statement.

Give answer

  • (A) If only assumption I is implicit
  • (B) If only assumption II is implicit
  • (C) If either I or II is implicit
  • (D) If neither I nor II is implicit
  • (E) If both I and II are implicit.

32.

Statement: I cannot contact you on phone from Karshik.

Assumptions:

  1. Telephone facility is not available at Karshik.
  2. Nowadays it is difficult to contact on phone.

Only assumption I is implicit
Only assumption II is implicit
Either I or II is implicit
Neither I nor II is implicit
Both I and II are implicit
Answer: Option
Explanation:
The statement indicates the impossibility of phone contact from Karshik. Thus, the fact in I may be assumed from the given statement. So, I is implicit However, II indicates difficulty, not the impossibility of contact as is indicated in the statement. So, II is not implicit.

Where does it mention that there are no phones in Karshik?

It clearly states that the person cannot contact the other via phone, this does not mean that phones are non existent in the town. The answer is D (Neither I nor II is implicit).

I don't agree with this. It is not implicit that there is no telephone facility. Maybe the person does not have time/inclination to call. Or is too busy to call. Or is forbidden to call.

The question statement does not particularize the type of phone whether it is a mobile phone or telephone. Therefore, assumption A seems to be weak.

I do not agree with this as the answer given could be very remote assumption and in fact it hardly has any relation to the statement.

According to me, Option D seems to be correct.
