Statement: Should agriculture in rural India be mechanized?
Arguments:
- Yes. It would lead to higher production.
- No. Many villagers would be left unemployed.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, mechanization would speed up the work and increase the production. So, argument I is strong enough. Argument II is vague because mechanization will only eliminate wasteful employment, not create unemployment.

Agree, @Richa. Since when has there been such a thing as "wasteful employment" in agriculture? We certainly do not see many wastrels or happy-go-luckies in this industry for very obvious reasons. Also, since the work will be expedited by machines, what is the use of continuously hiring manpower when a machine can do the job of 5 people instead?

According to me, if rural production is mechanized, it will definitely lead to unemlpoyment, and there is no such wasteful unemployment these days, and so it should be seen that mechanization is not promoted in rural areas. What do you all think?

A lot of the "Right" answers are just subjective. In some countries peasant farming is they only employment, with 80% of people being peasant farmers. Mechanization would cause MASSIVE unemployment.
Both arguments are strong.

I think both should be valid in this question, as when the production will be mechanized it will surely lead to unemployment.
Please correct me, if I am wrong.
