Do we really need Smart Cities?

Bring the second most populous country on earth and an aspiring super power, India needs its cities to be Smart more than ever before. Not only Smart cities but India needs to focus on the concept of Smart villages as well as what I will call as 'Smart Districts'. Because it's important to reduce the migration from villages to cities to allow cities to grow without burdening their infrastructure and at the same time, preserving the village culture of India.

A Smart city, or I would say a Smart District should be a district with best education system focusing on moral as well as regular academics, a proper Healthcare system, round the clock easily accessible transport system, water harvesting mechanism, proper drainage system, sufficient civic area dedicated to recreational activities to name a few of the must have facilities. At the same time, proper roads and separate grievance redressal mechanisms in city and villages falling under jurisdiction should be there. There should be knowledge exchange via seminars, cultural fairs etc between people of city and villages. Cities and villages both are drivers of Indian economy and neglecting any one of them would derail the economy. Hence it's the need of the hour to focus on Smart cities, Smart villages and Smart districts with aim of promoting sustainable development and better livelihood to the people.

No, I don't think so. The reason being today there are smart cities in India but then also there are areas in those`cities which are still backwards. So sometimes I really feel that by giving the tag of the smart city to any city is that city really progressing? Are the people really keeping up with the progressive mentality? So unless and until we try to reach to all the people and change their thinking or do something that will affect the populations mindset, giving the tag of smart city isnt going to help because I have seen smart cities affected heavily with floods, poverty etc.

Yes, we do need smart cities because for being a developed nation, first n foremost education should beat every defaulter, if rural people will see and observe things going on their side, they will also feel to grow n compete with city people, & so they will realise to get educated and work in a decent way. And so even middle-class men will also work hard to accomplish rich people's standard and so on, and in this way definitely by having smart cities our nation can compete other nations in tech, education, knowledge, wealth etc.

I think that we need smart villages instead of the smart city. For the equal development if the whole country. In this era, India has many villages which are not connected to cities or people of villages are unable to get that facility. Another fact is that fund for the smart city is less according to the city so the development of the smart city is not easy and people do not get its advantage.

Yeah, we need smart cities as it will help us to do our tasks and daily life routine very easily. It will make the work load less and will help in making the city developed. The should promote these initiatives so as to make people aware of it. It should make amendments to bridge the gap between rich and poor so that poor can also enjoy this.

But smart cities will require much initial investment and will have high Return on investment rate that is not affordable for Government at this economic slowdown conditions.

We need smart villages instead of smart cities, but we have also improved the development of the country. To improve the better software industries and better development we need smart cities. Also better for all the developments in education, health and these type of developments. Thank you.

Yes, in order to develop we need to be smart, we need smart cities but we don't want all this at the expense of cutting down more and more trees in order to build a path of metro station or to install new towers and any technology that will further harm our environment. Smart cities are very necessary in order link each city and improve the living standard of the country and therefore work is needed to be done in rural areas because they are the ones who should be linked with the city for their further growth.

I would like to say that smart city is needed to develop the country is necessary for better quality of life with lots of facility, amenities and smart city will help to create lots of opportunities for employments and off course it will leads to develop the country but only by making smart cities our country will not be developed, for development of our nation we need to grow together that means we need also to plan for smart village and smart district so that will help to reduce migration rate which is increasing rapidly by nowadays so to control migration we need smart village and that will resolve many problems regarding employment etc. Similar way we need to develop smart each and every part of our country for our development of our country.

According to me,

Smart city is to make people smart by encouraging every individual irrespective of village or city to implement their innovative ideas for the development of the society. One must be able to do something unique which will add value to their life and to the society even. Basically one must be smart enough first. To make smart being educated properly is the key thing. There must be changes in the way of learning. Everything is changing day by day so as the people also should change. Continuous improvement must be encouraged.
