If 5500 copies are published and the transportation cost on them amounts to Rs. 82500, then what should be the selling price of the book so that the publisher can earn a profit of 25%?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
For the publisher to earn a profit of 25%, S.P. = 125% of C.P.
Also Transportation Cost = 10% of C.P.
Let the S.P. of 5500 books be Rs. x.
Then, 10 : 125 = 82500 : x ![]() |

The transportation cost is 82500, the graph says that the transportation cost is 10 % of CP, so CP will be 82500*100/10=825000, now to earn a profit of 25 %, the SP should be 825000 * 25/100 +825000=1031250.
This is the SP of 5500 books, so for 1 book=1031250/5500 = 187.5.
This is the SP of 5500 books, so for 1 book=1031250/5500 = 187.5.

10% = 82500/5500=15 ---------> eq1.
100% = 150(eq1 x 10)
20% = 30(eq 1 x 2)
5% = 7.5(eq 1 /2 )
125% = 150 + 30 + 7.5 = 187.5.
100% = 150(eq1 x 10)
20% = 30(eq 1 x 2)
5% = 7.5(eq 1 /2 )
125% = 150 + 30 + 7.5 = 187.5.

It's quite simple and you don't have to use the assume stuff like let S.P be x n all (if u don't like it)
Here wo go, transportation cost of 5500 books is 82500, so transportation cost of one book is 82500/5500 which is 15.
As transportation cost (which is 15) is 10% of total C.P, 15 is 10% of total C.P. By dividing 15/10 we get 1% of total C.P which 15/10=1.5.
Not multiply 1.5 with respective percentages given in the chart and add all the answers (including 15 which is trans cost) you'll get total C.P which is 150.
As profit to be earned is 25%, S.P would be C.P+25% of C.P which is 150+25% of 150 therefore S.P= 150+37.5= 187.5 (answer)
Or 125%of 150 which is 187.5.

Or 125%of 150 which is 187.5.

Here transportation cost is given 10%.
Therefore, the cost of one book is (b * 10)/100 = 0.1 * b.
Now given that 5500 * 0.1 * b = 82500.
Therefore, b = 150.
Now publisher needs 25% more profit hence, (150*25)/100 = 37.5,
Hence we add the final cost price for one book is 150+37.5 = 187.50.

Transportation Cost of 5500 books = Rs. 82500.
Transportation cost of 1 book = 82500/5500 = Rs. 15.
Also Transportation Cost = 10% of C.P.
let C.P. of one book = x,
15 = 10% of x,
so, x = 150,
cp of 1 book = 150,
so, sp of 1 book in order to earn 25% profit = 125% of CP = 125% of 150 = Rs. 187.5.

I am unable to understand SP =125% of CP.
As per @Anup's explanation at the top. 25% profit on 100 rs. CP is 125. how does that become 125% of CP?
Isn't S.P = 125% of CP ((100 * 125/100) = 125+100 = 225) here is 225? which is more than 25% profit?
Please explain.
