If 5500 copies are published and the transportation cost on them amounts to Rs. 82500, then what should be the selling price of the book so that the publisher can earn a profit of 25%?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
For the publisher to earn a profit of 25%, S.P. = 125% of C.P.
Also Transportation Cost = 10% of C.P.
Let the S.P. of 5500 books be Rs. x.
Then, 10 : 125 = 82500 : x ![]() |

Alternative Method:
Transportation Cost = 82500 (which is 10% of the total cost.)
Hence, total cost = 825000
Therefore, cost of 1 book = 825000/5500 = Rs.150
Now, SP is 25% more of this
Therefore, (150+25% of 150) = Rs. 187.5
Transportation Cost = 82500 (which is 10% of the total cost.)
Hence, total cost = 825000
Therefore, cost of 1 book = 825000/5500 = Rs.150
Now, SP is 25% more of this
Therefore, (150+25% of 150) = Rs. 187.5

How do you get S.P = 125% of C.P

Let the cost price be Rs 100, then as per the question, 25% of CP i.e Rs 25 more than CP.
Hence 100+25.
Hence 100+25.

Transportation cost=82500/5500=15.
.1*x=15 (x is C P).
(or)
15=.1x- - - - - - (1).
Selling cost=125% of C P.
Selling cost=1.25*x- - - - - (2).
Therefore----->
Selling cost/15=1.25x/.1x
Selling cost=187.5.
.1*x=15 (x is C P).
(or)
15=.1x- - - - - - (1).
Selling cost=125% of C P.
Selling cost=1.25*x- - - - - (2).
Therefore----->
Selling cost/15=1.25x/.1x
Selling cost=187.5.

Let total cost = x.
Transportation cost=10% of x=82500.
x=825000.
Cost of 1 copy=(total cost)/(no. of copies).
=825000/5500.
=150.
Now, (SP-150)*100/150 = 25.
=>SP = 187.5.
Transportation cost=10% of x=82500.
x=825000.
Cost of 1 copy=(total cost)/(no. of copies).
=825000/5500.
=150.
Now, (SP-150)*100/150 = 25.
=>SP = 187.5.

5500*10% of X=82500.
x=150.
Now we know SP = C.P[1+P%/100].
THEN WE GET SP = 150*125/100.
S.P = 187.50.
x=150.
Now we know SP = C.P[1+P%/100].
THEN WE GET SP = 150*125/100.
S.P = 187.50.

82500/5500 = 15.00. Which is the transportation cost of a single book. Which is given as 10%.
Then find the 125% which is 187.5.
Then find the 125% which is 187.5.
