Nepal was the country involved in the Bhashini Shilpi session organised by the Digital India Bhashini Division on August 31, 2026. The initiative aimed to strengthen India-Nepal cooperation in multilingual artificial intelligence technology and digital inclusion. Bhashini serves as India’s national platform for AI-enabled translation and speech services, helping reduce language barriers in digital public infrastructure. It supports more than 800 government websites, processes over 9 billion AI-related information units, and handles more than 24 million AI inferences daily. The platform provides text-based support for 36 Indian languages, voice technology for 23 Indian languages, and multilingual capabilities across 35 international languages.

Bangladesh announced the commencement of a Two-Plus-Two (2+2) Dialogue with China on August 30, 2026, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in diplomacy and defence. The initial discussions will be conducted at the Minister of State level, with subsequent meetings expected to move to the Foreign Minister level. The two countries are also focusing on strategic and economic cooperation, including the modernisation of Mongla Port, a proposed Mongla Export Processing Zone, the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project, and the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh corridor. The dialogue represents an effort to deepen Bangladesh-China strategic relations across multiple sectors.

Uzbekistan awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi its highest honour, the Oliy Darajali Do‘stlik Order, during his visit to Tashkent on August 30, 2026. The honour, meaning “Order of Supreme Friendship,” recognises friendship and international cooperation. Modi dedicated the award to the people of India, India’s rich heritage, and the historic friendship between India and Uzbekistan. During the visit, the two countries also upgraded their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and agreed on long-term uranium supplies to India. Cooperation was further strengthened in areas such as trade, investment, defence, energy, digital connectivity, and nuclear collaboration.

Ecuador declared a nationwide red alert on August 29, 2026, due to the increasing risks associated with the ongoing El Nino phenomenon. The country’s Ministry of Risk Management issued the alert as authorities prepared for possible droughts, wildfires, and other climate-related disruptions. Particular concern was raised over drought and wildfire risks in the Amazon region. The emergency declaration enables authorities to take precautionary measures, including preventive evacuations if necessary. El Nino can cause abnormal weather patterns worldwide by altering atmospheric circulation, resulting in droughts in some regions and heavy rainfall in others.

Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves, estimated at more than 300 billion barrels. On August 29, 2026, the United States secured majority control over 65 billion barrels of proven Venezuelan oil reserves through a historic agreement. The deal aims to provide US refineries with stable, low-cost crude supplies while enabling long-term access for American companies to Venezuelan oilfields. It is expected to generate around $209 billion for Venezuela’s state treasury and attract nearly $100 billion in private energy-sector investment. Venezuela’s capital is Caracas, and the country is also one of the five founding members of OPEC, established in 1960.
