New Delhi hosted the first Steering Committee meeting for the 57th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on August 21, 2026. The meeting reviewed preparations for the festival, which is scheduled to take place in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2026. Ashutosh Gowariker has been appointed Festival Director, while Dr L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, is the Chairman of the Steering Committee. Rajasthan sanctioned ₹18 lakh on August 23, 2026, for constructing a new building for the Government Primary School in Rampura (Kanwarpura), Jaipur. The project is located in the Sanganer block, with construction scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026. Of the total amount, ₹12 lakh will come from the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), while ₹6 lakh will be provided through the MLA fund. The original school building had been declared dilapidated after a technical survey in September 2025. Mysuru hosted the National Conclave on Tribal Languages and Museums on August 24, 2026, in Karnataka. Organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute and the Central Institute of Indian Languages, the three-day conclave focused on conserving tribal languages and culture. Major initiatives included the revamped Adi Vaani platform with an iOS app and five new languages, along with the launch of the Jago AI bot. Mumbai debuted in the IWG 2026 Work From Anywhere Index with a score of 77, becoming the only Indian city included in the global ranking. The index evaluates destinations based on factors such as weather, broadband connectivity, accommodation, transportation, culture, food, and flexible workspaces. Mumbai performed particularly well in transport, accommodation, flexible workspace availability, and weather. Its score was higher than those of cities such as London and Miami. However, Mumbai faced comparatively weaker scores in broadband speed, events, and happiness. Bangkok topped the 2026 index with 106.5 points, followed by Tokyo and Barcelona.

Sophie Adenot became the first French woman to perform a spacewalk during a maintenance mission at the International Space Station (ISS). She conducted the spacewalk alongside NASA astronaut Anil Menon, with the primary objective of replacing a space-to-ground antenna that supports the station’s communication network. The work was carried out around the Z1 truss above the Unity module. The initial spacewalk lasted approximately six and a half hours, but the antenna installation could not be completed due to time constraints. A second spacewalk was scheduled for August 25, 2026, to finish the installation, with Jack Hathaway assisting through the Canadarm2 robotic arm.

Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India on August 21, 2026, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune, Maharashtra. It promotes cooperation in emerging technologies such as 5G, 6G, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things. The two countries will also collaborate on Open RAN, Direct-to-Device connectivity, Non-Terrestrial Networks, Low Earth Orbit satellites, cybersecurity, spectrum management, and Digital Public Infrastructure. Haryana hosted the inauguration of the National Security Guard’s (NSG) first-ever Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) at the NSG Training Academy in Manesar. The 12-week specialised programme is designed for selected women personnel from State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Participants receive rigorous training in physical fitness, endurance, weapon handling, marksmanship, tactical intervention, hostage rescue, and counter-terrorism operations. After completing the course, the women commandos will return to their respective forces and contribute their specialised skills. The initiative aims to increase women’s operational capabilities and strengthen coordination among India’s security forces.

New Delhi hosted the 25th India–UK Defence Consultative Group (DCG) meeting on August 21, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral defence industrial cooperation between India and the United Kingdom. It was co-chaired by Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and UK Permanent Under Secretary for Defence Jeremy Pocklington. Discussions included reviewing the India–UK Vision 2035 and advancing research and development under the Ten-year Defence Industrial Roadmap. Both sides also agreed to expand military cooperation through joint exercises, training, and capacity building.
