India’s seventh Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) was inaugurated in Jammu by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on 5 June 2026. The centre has been established to provide advanced weather forecasting, climate monitoring, and disaster early-warning services for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. It offers district-level forecasts, flash-flood warnings, avalanche alerts, cloudburst notifications, and mountain weather advisories. The facility is expected to improve disaster preparedness and support sectors such as agriculture, tourism, transport, hydropower, and defence operations. The inauguration marks a significant step in strengthening meteorological infrastructure and weather forecasting capabilities in India’s Himalayan region.

Eighteen Namo Oxygen Parks were inaugurated across New Delhi on World Environment Day 2026 under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. The initiative was launched by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to improve urban air quality, increase green cover, enhance biodiversity, and provide recreational green spaces for citizens. The parks are designed to function as urban green lungs and support environmental sustainability. Alongside this initiative, the Delhi Government announced a target of planting 15 lakh trees and released important environmental planning documents to strengthen conservation and ecological governance in the national capital.

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been appointed as the next Vice Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force. Commissioned into the fighter stream in 1986, he is a highly experienced fighter pilot, experimental test pilot, and qualified flying instructor with more than 3,300 flying hours on over 20 aircraft types. He currently serves as the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) and has contributed significantly to indigenous defence projects, military reforms, and joint operational planning. His extensive operational, leadership, and modernisation experience is expected to strengthen the Indian Air Force’s future capabilities and strategic preparedness.

The SNA Samman Ceremony 2026 was organised by the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi in Lucknow to recognise 51 distinguished artistes for their exceptional contributions to classical music, folk music, dance, theatre, and traditional folk arts. The awards were presented for achievements during the years 2021 to 2024 and celebrated artists who have dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting India’s cultural heritage. E85 fuel is a high-ethanol blend consisting of approximately 85% ethanol and 15% petrol. Introduced as part of India's efforts to enhance energy security and promote sustainable transportation, the fuel is designed for use in Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs). E85 aims to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and support domestic ethanol production. Since ethanol is produced from agricultural feedstocks such as sugarcane, maize, rice, and biomass resources, the initiative is also expected to create additional income opportunities for farmers and contribute to rural economic development while advancing India's clean energy goals.

Saurabh Vijay, an IAS officer of the 1998 Maharashtra cadre and the CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has taken charge as the CEO of the IndiaAI Mission. His appointment comes at a crucial time as India expands its artificial intelligence ecosystem through the ₹10,372 crore IndiaAI Mission. The initiative focuses on developing indigenous AI models, strengthening AI infrastructure, supporting startups and researchers, creating AI-ready datasets, and promoting responsible AI adoption. With extensive experience in public administration, finance, and governance, Saurabh Vijay is expected to play a key role in advancing India’s ambitions to become a global leader in artificial intelligence.
