R Praggnanandhaa created history by becoming the first Indian to win the Norway Chess tournament, one of the most prestigious events in world chess. The 20-year-old Grandmaster secured the title after defeating Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the final round and finishing with 18 points. His remarkable campaign included four consecutive victories in the later stages of the tournament and two classical wins against former World Champion Magnus Carlsen. This achievement is particularly significant because even renowned Indian players such as Viswanathan Anand and D Gukesh had never won the Norway Chess title, making Praggnanandhaa’s success a landmark moment for Indian chess.

Neelkanth Mishra has been appointed as India’s next Executive Director at the World Bank. A highly respected economist, he has extensive experience in economic policy, financial markets, research, and public policy advisory roles. Before this appointment, he served as Chief Economist at Axis Bank and held several important positions, including membership in the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a standardised vegan logo to help consumers easily identify certified vegan food products. The logo will become mandatory on all approved vegan food packages from July 1, 2027. This initiative aims to improve transparency, prevent misleading claims, and support informed purchasing decisions. The logo features a green square-framed design with a stylized “V” and a sprouting leaf, symbolising plant-based and sustainable food choices. Food businesses have been given sufficient time to update their packaging and comply with the new regulations before the implementation deadline.

India's economy recorded a strong GDP growth rate of 7.8% in the fourth quarter (January–March) of FY26, outperforming projections made by the Reserve Bank of India and major market estimates. The growth was driven by robust investment activity, expansion in the services sector, improved agricultural output, and steady construction growth. This performance contributed to the upward revision of the full-year FY26 GDP growth estimate to 7.7%. West Bengal became the 33rd Legislature in India to adopt the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4 June 2026. NeVA is a Mission Mode Project of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs aimed at digitising and modernising legislative functioning through a common digital platform. The initiative promotes paperless governance, transparency, efficiency, accessibility, and better record management. MY Bharat, operating under the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, earned a Guinness World Records title for the “Most Users to Take an Online Quiz in One Week.” The achievement was accomplished through the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders’ Dialogue (VBYLD) Quiz, which engaged youth from across India in the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. During the assessment period from 25 October to 31 October 2025, over 8.39 lakh quiz participations were recorded, and after extensive verification and audits, 390,812 eligible participants were certified. The record highlights India’s growing digital youth engagement and commitment to nation-building initiatives.
