The International Day for Women in Maritime is observed every year on May 18 to recognise and promote the contributions of women in the global maritime sector. In 2026, the United Nations and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) marked the occasion with a special event in London under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence.” The observance aims to encourage greater participation, recruitment, and sustained employment of women in maritime professions.
