Maharashtra has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fira Barcelona International, a renowned organization from Spain, to develop a world-class convention centre in Nagpur. The project, announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to create a state-of-the-art facility equipped with modern amenities and excellent connectivity by various modes of transport. Beyond infrastructure development, the convention centre is expected to serve as a cultural and economic hub, hosting international conferences, exhibitions, and events that can boost tourism, generate employment, and strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a global business destination.

India and the United Kingdom conducted their first Combined Carrier Strike Group exercise during Exercise Konkan 2025, held from October 5–9 off India’s western coast. The exercise marked a major milestone in bilateral defence cooperation and maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy. Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has taken up advisory roles with Microsoft and Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company. Castrol India announced a key leadership change with the appointment of Saugata Basuray as the Interim CEO, effective from January 2026. He will take over following the resignation of Kedar Lele, who steps down as Managing Director at the end of December 2025. Basuray, a long-serving Castrol professional since 1999, currently holds the position of Wholetime Director & Head of B2C Sales and will retain these responsibilities alongside his interim CEO role. Russia’s lower house of parliament has approved the country’s withdrawal from the Plutonium Management and Disposition Agreement (PMDA) with the United States. The PMDA, signed in 2000 and implemented in 2011, required both nations to dispose of 34 tonnes of weapons-grade plutonium each—enough to produce around 17,000 nuclear warheads. The agreement was aimed at reducing nuclear stockpiles and preventing proliferation. Russia’s decision to exit marks a setback for nuclear disarmament efforts and reflects rising tensions between the two major powers over strategic and security concerns in global geopolitics.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) during the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi. This collaboration aims to promote a global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources while ensuring environmental sustainability. The partnership focuses on balancing energy transition goals with conservation priorities, minimizing ecological impacts, and supporting sustainable development practices. By uniting conservation expertise and renewable energy advocacy, IUCN and IRENA intend to foster greener, more responsible energy systems for a sustainable global future.

The 3rd International Purple Fair 2025 was hosted in Goa and inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. Article 233 of the Indian Constitution deals with the appointment of District Judges. The Supreme Court clarified that judicial officers who had completed seven years of practice as advocates before entering the judicial service are eligible for direct recruitment as District Judges under this Article. Earlier, only practising advocates with seven years of experience were considered eligible, excluding in-service judicial officers. This ruling ensures broader eligibility and promotes fairness in judicial appointments while maintaining the integrity and experience criteria necessary for the position of District Judge.

Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has identified three major Indian ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs. These include Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority in Tamil Nadu, and Paradip Port Authority in Odisha. This initiative aims to promote sustainable energy infrastructure and accelerate India’s transition towards clean hydrogen production and export.
