Tata Advanced Systems successfully installed the first Lanza-N 3D Air Surveillance Radar, a naval variant of Indra’s radar, on an Indian warship. This milestone was part of a $145-million agreement signed in 2020. Over the next decade, Tata will locally assemble and integrate 19 additional radars for the Indian Navy. The Lanza-N radar system is designed for advanced long-range air defence and anti-missile operations, making it highly suitable for the demanding conditions of the Indian Ocean. This initiative highlights Tata’s growing role in strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and enhancing naval preparedness.

India and Norway held their inaugural Maritime Security, Disarmament, and Non-Proliferation Dialogue in Oslo on 13 September 2025. This marked a significant step in strengthening their strategic partnership, focusing on maritime stability, adherence to international law, and cooperation in global security matters. The discussions covered nuclear and conventional disarmament, maritime law under UNCLOS, and protection of critical infrastructure like ports and undersea cables. Both nations also committed to countering piracy, smuggling, and trafficking while enhancing capacity building and surveillance. Norway’s involvement highlights its role as a leading maritime power and NATO member, while India gains a crucial partner in the North Atlantic and Arctic security framework.

India secured the 5th position overall at the ISSF World Cup 2025 in Ningbo, China. This performance was highlighted by Esha Singh’s gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event and Meghana Sajjanar’s first World Cup medal, a bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle. Despite strong individual performances, India ranked behind China, USA, Norway, and Italy in the overall medal standings. China dominated the competition with a massive haul of 41 medals, including 16 gold. India’s 5th place finish showcased the growing strength of its shooting contingent on the global stage.

Engineers Day 2025 is celebrated on September 15 across India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, born in 1861 at Muddenahalli, Karnataka. Widely regarded as one of India’s greatest engineers, he made pioneering contributions in civil engineering, dam construction, flood management, and urban planning. His leadership as the Diwan of Mysore from 1912–1918 modernised the state through industries, schools, and railways. Awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955, he remains a symbol of engineering brilliance. Since its first observance in 1967, Engineers Day has inspired innovation and celebrated the role of engineers in shaping India’s future.

Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati has taken charge as the Director of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi. His appointment is for a tenure of five years or until superannuation. Prof. Prajapati brings with him an extensive academic background, having earlier served as Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University in Jodhpur. Additionally, he had a long association with Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, where he contributed significantly to Ayurvedic research and academics. His leadership at AIIA is expected to further strengthen Ayurvedic education, research, and clinical practices at the national level.

The International Day of Democracy 2025 is observed on September 15 to highlight the significance of democratic governance, citizen participation, and the protection of fundamental rights. First established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, it was aligned with the Universal Declaration on Democracy adopted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1997. Each year, the observance serves as a reminder of the importance of democracy in ensuring political equality, accountability, and the inclusion of marginalised voices. The 2025 theme, “Achieving Gender Equality, Action by Action,” emphasises that democracy thrives only when gender equality and inclusiveness are fully realised.

Jaismine Lamboria emerged victorious in the women’s 57kg category at the World Boxing Championships 2025 held in Liverpool. The centenary celebration of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika was marked by PM Modi unveiling a special ₹100 coin and a postage stamp in Guwahati. This location holds deep cultural significance as it is closely tied to Hazarika’s legacy in Assam and the Northeast. Known as the “Bard of Brahmaputra,” Hazarika composed over 1,500 songs that conveyed themes of humanity, justice, and patriotism while popularising the folk traditions of the region. By choosing Guwahati for this tribute, the event highlighted the enduring influence of Hazarika’s contributions to Indian music and culture.

PM Modi inaugurated the world’s first bamboo-based 2G bioethanol plant at Numaligarh in Assam, with an investment of ₹5,000 crore. This landmark project highlights India’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable development. The plant plays a vital role in supporting India’s E20 ethanol blending target, achieved in 2025, by producing ethanol from bamboo, which is abundant in the Northeast. It follows a zero-waste model, generating not only ethanol but also green chemicals, carbon dioxide, bio-coal, and 25 MW of green power. The project positions Assam as a leader in renewable energy innovation while boosting local bamboo-based industries.

The Gujarat government launched a massive financial initiative by disbursing more than ₹1,000 crore under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana to benefit 10.49 lakh girls studying in Classes 9 to 12. Each girl receives ₹50,000 spread across four years, regardless of whether she is already covered under other scholarships, with payments streamlined through a dedicated Namo Lakshmi portal. In addition, 1.5 lakh students pursuing science education were supported with ₹161+ crore through the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana. This program underscores Gujarat’s focus on encouraging education, particularly for young girls, and promoting STEM learning among students.
