Starting September 15, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) revised the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) limits for specific high-value Person to Merchant (P2M) transactions made through verified merchants. The per-transaction cap has been raised to ₹5 lakh, while the daily cumulative limit has been increased to ₹10 lakh. This enhanced limit covers sectors such as capital markets, insurance, government tax payments, credit card settlements, EMI collections, and travel bookings. The decision aims to strengthen India’s digital payments ecosystem, making UPI more versatile for high-value financial activities while ensuring secure, real-time, and cashless transactions at scale.

The 5th Central Advisory Council meeting under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) took place in New Delhi. The meeting was significant as it witnessed the launch of the Unified RERA portal by Housing Minister Manohar Lal. The portal is designed to improve transparency, accountability, and timely project delivery in the real estate sector. The event also emphasised the importance of states and union territories fully implementing RERA to safeguard the interests of citizens, particularly homebuyers, by ensuring a more regulated and transparent housing market.

The memoir Mother Mary Comes To Me by Arundhati Roy was launched in Kochi, marking the first time one of her books was unveiled in her home state, Kerala. The launch event was jointly organised by Penguin Random House and DC Books at St Teresa’s College, Kochi. The memoir is deeply personal, reflecting on her mother’s influence, her own journey as a daughter and writer, and her relationship with her brother LKC. The celebrated writer K. R. Meera introduced the book during the event, which added to its cultural significance and highlighted Roy’s strong literary presence in Kerala.

The Royal Bhutan Buddhist Temple was inaugurated at Rajgir in Bihar, an important historical and spiritual site associated with Buddhism. Rajgir holds great significance as it is the place where Lord Buddha performed penance and delivered several teachings. ICICI Bank has partnered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support DPIIT-recognised startups under the Startup India initiative. The MoU, signed on September 4, 2025, introduces a Startup Engagement Programme that will provide accelerator access, structured mentorship, pilot opportunities, and ecosystem networking for startups. ICICI Bank’s Mumbai-based accelerator will serve as a hub for product-based startups, offering workspaces and opportunities to connect with industry leaders, investors, and clients. This collaboration not only empowers early- and growth-stage startups but also helps them test their solutions in real-world environments, enhancing innovation and scalability.

Nepal banned 26 unregistered social media platforms on September 4, 2025, under its Directive for Regulation of Social Media Use, 2080. The platforms included globally popular services like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter). The decision was announced by Nepal’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, after platforms failed to comply with requirements such as registering with the government, establishing a local office, and appointing a contact person in Nepal. TikTok, which had earlier been banned, was reinstated after registration in 2024, while Telegram continues to remain banned due to concerns over misuse.

Teacher’s Day in India is celebrated every year on September 5, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s second President and a renowned philosopher. This tradition began in 1962, when Dr. Radhakrishnan suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday, it would be a privilege if it were observed as Teacher’s Day. Anand V. Patil, a celebrated writer known for his outstanding contributions to children’s literature, will receive the Prof. V.K. Gokak Award in Bengaluru on September 7, 2025. He has previously been honoured with the Kendra Sahitya Akademi’s Bal Sahitya Award, and his works have played a key role in nurturing creativity and values among young readers. The award, instituted in memory of Prof. Vinayaka Krishna Gokak, a Jnanpith awardee and a towering figure in Kannada literature, honours writers who significantly enrich Indian literary traditions. The 3rd North East Aviation Summit and Ministers’ Conference is being hosted in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. This marks the first time the state has hosted such a significant aviation event. The summit brings together Union Minister Rammohan Naidu, MoS Murlidhar Mohol, and various state ministers to discuss vital issues related to the aviation sector. Key focus areas include airport expansion, the introduction of helicopters, seaplanes, and drones, along with Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) activities. The North Eastern Zone Badminton Championship was inaugurated in Tripura by Chief Minister Manik Saha. The event brought together more than 200 players from different northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim. Tripura has recently invested heavily in sports infrastructure, building eight synthetic turfs, two tracks, and two indoor halls. In addition, floodlights were installed at Agartala’s Avananta football ground to allow night play. India’s first Vulture Conservation Portal was launched in Assam through a joint initiative by We Foundation India and the Zoology Department of Gauhati University. This digital platform is designed to create a nationwide network focused on safeguarding vultures, which play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by preventing the spread of diseases through carrion disposal. The initiative emphasises grassroots-level awareness, particularly using local languages, to ensure wider community participation. With India hosting nine vulture species, five of which are listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, the portal aims to address threats like poisoning, habitat loss, and human disturbances.
