A can finish a work in 18 days and B can do the same work in 15 days. B worked for 10 days and left the job. In how many days, A alone can finish the remaining work?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
B's 10 day's work = | ![]() |
1 | x 10 | ![]() |
= | 2 | . |
15 | 3 |
Remaining work = | ![]() |
1 - | 2 | ![]() |
= | 1 | . |
3 | 3 |
Now, | 1 | work is done by A in 1 day. |
18 |
![]() |
1 | work is done by A in | ![]() |
18 x | 1 | ![]() |
= 6 days. |

Remaining work = (1 - (2/3) ) = 1/3;.
A can finish 1 work in-------> 18 days.
A can finish 1/3 work in--------> x days.
So, x = 18 * (1/3) ;.
X = 6 days.
A can finish 1 work in-------> 18 days.
A can finish 1/3 work in--------> x days.
So, x = 18 * (1/3) ;.
X = 6 days.

@Willoy.
Here B is alone working for 10 days without the help of A.
So work done by B in 10 days = 10*1/15 = 2/3.
Remaining work after 10 days 1-2/3 = 1/3.

According to questions, A and B both will be working for 10 days right?
Then if we add (1/18 + 1/15) = -ve answer is coming in this way question may be wrong.

L.C.M=90
b one day capacity is 6
a one day capacity is 5
b work done in 10 days,then 6*10=60
total work(L.C.M)=90-60=30
now,30/a capacity
30/5
=6

A+ B = 30,
LCM = 30,
So Efficiency = 1.
That means A and B can do 1/2 work each on 1 day.
Therefore , for completing 30 units A will take 60 days.

I have a question that while B is working for 10 days is A remains idle? because nothing is mentioned about that in the question.

@Siva if you got answer as 5 by subtracting 1/15 - 1/10, then its wrong as this subtraction will get different answer.

[A's 1day work = 1/18.
In how many days(x) =1/3 of total work.]
Cross multiplication:
1*1/3=1/18*x
X=6 days.
In how many days(x) =1/3 of total work.]
Cross multiplication:
1*1/3=1/18*x
X=6 days.

A done in 18 says so we can do in this way also:
18*5 //therefore (15-10=5).
18*5 = 90.
90/15 = 6.
18*5 //therefore (15-10=5).
18*5 = 90.
90/15 = 6.

There's easy method:
Given for A:18, for B:15.
-10 days = 5 days.
Therefore (5/15) 18 = 6 days.
Given for A:18, for B:15.
-10 days = 5 days.
Therefore (5/15) 18 = 6 days.
