The average age of husband, wife and their child 3 years ago was 27 years and that of wife and the child 5 years ago was 20 years. The present age of the husband is:

Explanation:
Sum of the present ages of husband, wife and child = (27 x 3 + 3 x 3) years = 90 years.
Sum of the present ages of wife and child = (20 x 2 + 5 x 2) years = 50 years.
Husband's present age = (90 - 50) years = 40 years.

(H+W+C)/3 = 27+3(add 3 to get present data).
H+W+C = 27*3+3*3 = 90.
(W+C)/2 = 20+5(to get present data).
W+C = 20*2+5*2 = 50.
So (H+W+C)-(W+C) = 40 years.
H+W+C = 27*3+3*3 = 90.
(W+C)/2 = 20+5(to get present data).
W+C = 20*2+5*2 = 50.
So (H+W+C)-(W+C) = 40 years.

a)=(x+y+z)/3 = 27------> (1) given
=(x+y+z) =3*27=81------> (2) 3years back
=(x+y+z) =81+(3*3) =90------> (3) present age.
B) =(x+y) /2= 20------> (4) given
= (x+y) =2*20=40------> (5) 5years back age
= (x+y) =40+(5*2)=50------> (6) present age of wife and child.
= x+y+z =90
= 50+z=90
=90-50 = 40 = z------> Present husband age (Or)
eq-3 subtracting with 6 => 90-50 = 40 husband's present age.

Now
X+Y+Z=(3*30)=90.
Y+Z=20(5 years back)Now =(25*2)=50,
Now equate it.
Y+Z cancelled,
X=90-50.
And X=40.
