Two cars start from the opposite places of a main road, 150 km apart. First car runs for 25 km and takes a right turn and then runs 15 km. It then turns left and then runs for another 25 km and then takes the direction back to reach the main road. In the mean time, due to minor break down the other car has run only 35 km along the main road. What would be the distance between two cars at this point?

Why we consider the 15 km?

Whether both the cars move towards each other or away from each other is not given. So the can't be correctly given.

It's simple,

Both of them being on the opposite side of a main road (facing each other) 150 km apart.

One of them moves 25km, then diverts for 15 km (no need for calculation) and then moves 25 km and then back to main road, whereas the other person moves 35km from opposite side.

So the distance travelled by one is 25 + 25 = 50 km and the other is 35 km. Distance between them currently is 150 - (50 + 35) = 65km.

What means it goes back to the main road?

It means the first car reaches to the main road, at this point, if calculate how much first car travelled exactly on main road i.e. Horizontal distance at the main road, it will be 25 + 25 = 50m. Since total distance = 150.

The first car travelled 50. The 2nd car travelled 35. Remaining distance. = distance b/w both car at main road = 150 - (50 + 35) = 65.

It is so confusing guys.

But at last, I want to say that why 15 is not added to the calculation that has been shown below the question?

Please help me.

The answer should be 80 because it was mentioned that car will go back to the main road.

As my knowledge is concern answer should be 80. Because in question clearly mentioned that the first car has to take a turn towards to reach the main road. That means 15 km will be added to the total.

Now. [150- (25 + 25 + 35)] + 15 = 80.
