Two cars start from the opposite places of a main road, 150 km apart. First car runs for 25 km and takes a right turn and then runs 15 km. It then turns left and then runs for another 25 km and then takes the direction back to reach the main road. In the mean time, due to minor break down the other car has run only 35 km along the main road. What would be the distance between two cars at this point?
65 km
75 km
80 km

The answer will be correct when we assume for example in the direction max the shortest distance we prefer.

Here when he takes the final 25 km left turn .To reach the main road he might prefer a 15km left turn to reach the main road so that he is covering the main road distance of 50km.
But my question is why this kind of assumption may lead to different answers and that one will be correct according to everyone's assumptions right.

Anyone, please clarify my doubt.

15 KM is not counted because it's negligible.

In this case, the total distance from both vehicles is only calculated from the area that they have covered from being opposite of each other. i.e, By being on the "Main Road".

150 - (25 + 25) + 35 = 150 - 50 + 35,
= 150 - 85,
= 65.

As per my understanding, the distance 150 km given between the two cars is on the main road(horizontally shown in the diagram), it does not include other roads it took turns to, so we'll not add the distance travelled by the first car to go back to the main road. So simply it will be 150 - (25 + 25 + 35) = 65.

As clearly mentioned in the question.

After 25km first car takes right and travels 15 km and then it travels to left 15 km, now in question they said that car takes back to reach the main road means car reaches to the same point where it had taken 1st turn so total distance travelled by car on the main road is still 25 km and 2nd car is 35 km so from this explanation answer is 90km is the distance between two cars.
