8.
A girl counted in the following way on the fingers of her left hand : She started by calling the thumb 1, the index finger 2, middle finger 3, ring finger 4, little finger 5 and then reversed direction calling the ring finger 6, middle finger 7 and so on. She counted upto 1994. She ended counting on which finger ?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, while counting, the numbers associated to the thumb will be : 1, 9,17, 25,.....
i.e. numbers of the form (8n + 1).
Since 1994 = 249 x 8 + 2, so 1993 shall correspond to the thumb and 1994 to the index finger.

Correct answer is ring finger. Because thumb is closed when it is 10.
So when it will be 1990 the thumb will be closed and we will start by opening the thumb by 1991, then index finger as 1992, then middle finger as 1993 and ring finger as 1994.
So when it will be 1990 the thumb will be closed and we will start by opening the thumb by 1991, then index finger as 1992, then middle finger as 1993 and ring finger as 1994.

Can you please explain the pattern of counting?
I am just not getting how you guys are getting (8k+1) at the thumb?

As we found the form of the sequence is 8n+1.
Then divide 1994 by 8. Resultant is 249 and remainder is 2. So now (n=249)8+2.
2 means 2nd finger 4 index finger.
Then divide 1994 by 8. Resultant is 249 and remainder is 2. So now (n=249)8+2.
2 means 2nd finger 4 index finger.

Ring finger is the correct answer because 1994/5 = 398+4.
You will have remainder 4.
Since she started counting from left side and counts back to right side 2 rounds will be completed. I that way 398 is exactly divisible by 2.
At present her count should come from left side there remainder is 4 so count 1, 2, 3, 4 from our left side then you get the answer.

Index finger is absolutely right answer. i.e.,(8n+1) is the thumb in this case 1992 is multiplication of 249x8. So (8x249+1)=1993 is thumb then next finger is index finger.

1994 may be divide purely by only 2 then at two number position which finger is, the finger is Index finger at second position, which comes after thumb, so answer is Index finger.

Here Arithmetic progression rule followed :
a+(n-1)d nd aftr dat 2a+(n-1)d for calculating sum of and the result will be proceeding of 1 so we extend 1 nd we finally get index which is after thumb.

How the sequence be 1, 9, 17... Can you please elaborate. First two digits 1 and 9 are correct and later on how 17 will come?
