A sleeve which is used for through a solid shaft on hollow side for using power transmission.

Split couplings are used for hollow shafts as split couplings involve only the outer surface for gripping without using any keys. Which is suitable for hollow shafts.

Why it should not be solid shaft?

What mean dun cylinder ? anyone know about answer here!

Sleeves are made to join two parts as it is made up of two different parts assemble together with the help bolts.

Sleeve is designed by hollow shaft because it is made from cast iron.

Why they use sleeve?

Yogesh Khaladkar said: (Apr 21, 2014)
Because the power transmission shaft is rotates through this hollow shaft.

High- pressure seamless steel gas cylinder is ideal for holding permanent gas and high pressure liquefied gas such as oxygen, hydrogen, argon and carbon dioxide. The product is widely used in chemical, metallurgical, mechanical, medical, building, shipping industries and fire- fighting system.

A Sleeve coupling is a basic type of coupling. This consists of a pipe whose bore is finished to the required tolerance based on the shaft size.

From my point of view, hollow cylinder objects can handle large stress as well as forces, which are acting on it.

So that muff coupling is made up of hollow cylinder ?

All couplings are always hallow but shaft for sleeve and muff coupling is always solid because if shaft is hollow then how do we apply key on the shaft?

For hollow shaft we always use flange coupling.

This coupling consist of hollow cylinder or sleeve whose inner diameter is same as that of shaft.

The term coupling meant its used to join two mating profiles without fasteners. Zero fit locking principle. It should not be a solid shaft.

Sleeve or muff coupling is designed as hollow shaft but is used for solid shaft.

This consists of a pipe whose bore is finished to the required tolerance based on the shaft size.

Based on the usage of the coupling a keyway is made in the bore in order to transmit the torque by means of the key.

Two threaded holes are provided in order to lock the coupling in position.

Sleeve coupling is used to connect two shafts. Which two shafts has the coaxial axis? It is used to power transmission from one shaft to another.

Why don't we use solid shaft for muff couplings?

Manvendra said: (Oct 10, 2018)
Basically, Muff Coupling use in Solid Shaft. Muff Coupling Material Basically use is Cast Iron. It is mostly used in Vertical Pump and Motor Assembly. As per my knowledge; muff Coupling is not used in the hollow shaft.

But possible it is designed for the hollow shaft.

A hollow shaft with desired thickness to transmit power from one solid shaft to another solid shaft on colinear axis or coaxial.
