All couplings are always hallow but shaft for sleeve and muff coupling is always solid because if shaft is hollow then how do we apply key on the shaft?

For hollow shaft we always use flange coupling.

Agree @Vinay.

The Hollow shaft uses flange type coupling, in practical. Muff universal all are for solid shaft.

A hollow shaft with desired thickness to transmit power from one solid shaft to another solid shaft on colinear axis or coaxial.

Basically, Muff Coupling use in Solid Shaft. Muff Coupling Material Basically use is Cast Iron. It is mostly used in Vertical Pump and Motor Assembly. As per my knowledge; muff Coupling is not used in the hollow shaft.

But possible it is designed for the hollow shaft.

Why don't we use solid shaft for muff couplings?
