Directions to Solve
Each question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a 'weak' argument.
Give answer:
- (A) If only argument I is strong
- (B) If only argument II is strong
- (C) If either I or II is strong
- (D) If neither I nor II is strong and
- (E) If both I and II are strong.

Statement: Should high chimneys be installed in industries?
Arguments:
- Yes. It reduces pollution at ground level.
- No. It increases pollution in upper atmosphere.
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Pollution at ground level is the most hazardous in the way of being injurious to human and animal life. So, argument I alone holds.

According to me, both the arguments are true. Because reducing pollution at one level and making it to increase at other levels may cause critical problems.
As we all know acid rains are caused by health hazard gases which are released by AC, Vehicles and household materials. These dangerous gases cause depletion in the ozone layer which protects us from strong UV Rays. If we conclude this all as not a problem then we can say pollution in the above atmosphere is not a problem but in the reality of life, this all is the worst condition facing at the present situation. So both the arugment are important.

Adding to others point, my understanding is that while low chimneys concentrates pollutants to some areas at ground level, high chimneys disperses those pollutants over a much larger area and they eventually settle down to the ground. Clearly both have their pros and cons.
For me Option C is right.
For me Option C is right.

As both the options will reduce pollution at one level and increase at other level of the atmosphere, both the options are strong arguments to one another rather than the Main statement. So, I think neither of them are strong arguments and would go with option D

As in argument II,even if the pollution is released off in the upper atmosphere,it will indirectly harm the humans and animal life in the later period or in the long term.
According to me option C should be appropriate for this statement.

In the thermal power plant it should be noted that the height of chimney is considerable at a constant height not to be bigger so that it causes the atmospheric press high.
So 2 statement is not correct I think 1 be the best option A.
So 2 statement is not correct I think 1 be the best option A.

I do agree with the answer given because there could be ways to avoid air pollution even at present Indian industries need to be first approved by committee of Air and Control act of 1981. So option A is perfect and to be justified.

Both argument are strong. Definitely long chimneys will reduce pollution at ground level, on the other hand it will significantly pollute upper environment, and eventually toxic in the form of rain will show it's hazardous effect.

Yes, option A. Pollution at ground level is reduced so argument I is correct but argument 2 states negatively state that pollution in the upper atmosphere increases so ground level pollution is acceptable.

Ya its right in case of upper atmospheric level it giving support to us and this because of this pollution global worming also increase side by side is alter the rain pattern of global.

If the smoke is released at upper atmosphere. It will eventually deplete the environment at ground level. Pollution will deplete the entire atmosphere. So, Shouldn't B be the answer ?
