Foreign Television Channels are Destroying Our Culture

After seeing all the comments I seriously felt to comment on the answers.

1. The topic never says about the programs that's shown in India. Its completely about the foreign television channels who are destroying our culture.

2. Whoever has written the answers over here has not seen many foreign channels or serials other than animal planet, discovery, nat geo on one side and other cartoon serials which they are damn sure are not created in India.

The truth is there are certain serial makers who are insulting our culture and making fun of it. Now we may say its the power of Bollywood that has made its magic all over the world but nowadays it has become a fashion to put a minimum of one Indian character in each and every serial. This seems to be great but its not. The directors are making those Indians to insult our culture. They are making fun of the rituals we follow, the superstitious beliefs which we had believed from a long time (and some which has scientific reasons too, which obviously we don't know). They are making those Indian actors over there to eat beef which you know how much a serious crime it is considered in here.

I should accept that animal planet, discovery and other channels showing about wildlife and cars and what not but not based on a certain story, are doing a good job. Just see those serials which has a story then you will get the answers.

I do accept that the reality shows are worst in our country since many of you might have guessed by now that its completely fake. But other serials are doing a good job where they are concentrating more on women empowerment. Some serials are showing about the crimes that have taken place before so that people esp. House wife's' can get to know about it and be mentally prepared for it. And the best of all, almost all serials, may be a bit boring, but have never gone against our culture.

Note: It may be any particular's choice to see the channel or serial. Its his right if I have to please him/her. But it never meant that we support those channels or serials esp. Foreign channels to comment or insult our culture. It was always our culture and I'm proud of it.

I agree that its us who has to keep a check on what we are adopting from what we see hence foreign channels can not be held responsible for the deterioration of out culture. But would you still say the same thing about a 10 years old kid who is watching a program in which two foreigners are using the swear words, wearing bikinis and getting intimate? Will you say the kid is responsible for what he is learning from it? Or I should ask- What (else) do you expect the kid to learn from this kind of program's? What we and specially our kids learn from what we watch is sometimes NOT really in our hands. We have to understand that it is the social responsibility of media to see that it is not harming the culture and the youngsters. Media is very powerful and as its said- With power comes responsibility. Yes, it applies to the Indian channels too but because of this fact foreign channels can't get away with it since they are the ones which started all of this.

With this I would like to say foreign channels are responsible for the effects it has on our culture and not only our but on the culture of their country as well.

Foreign channels come in many forms news, sports,etc. So rather than blaming these foreign channels for destroying our culture we should ask ourselves that have we been completely honest with our culture. We should always take positive things from what we see and foreign channels just display their culture they do not force us to accept their culture. It is we who take all the negatives out of their culture and embed these things to our brain.

I think that foreign channels are not the main factor for destroying our culture. There is some amount of hand of foreign channels in destroying our culture but we can not blame only the foreign channels in destroying our culture. It is also we to destroy our heritage culture. But we should try to use the foreign channels to increase our knowledge. Before blaming others we should look at ourselves and ask are we perfect to blame anyone do we have that capability to blame or not. That's all for today see you all next time.

How we can blame foreign TV channels for today's degradation of youth what our TV channels are doing. Exactly they are also doing the same. Degrading today's youth in the same way as the foreign TV channels are doing. But just look towards the great channels which are gifts given by the foreign TV channels like Discovery, Netgeo, animal planet, fox traveler. So just look towards your self than point someone else.

Thanks all the above friend, according to my suggestion foreign channel don't effect our culture it show the thinking power of our culture,it show so many type of advertise on every day and how interpret this advertise depends upon us.... it also provide the motivational channels i.e (technology) that increase our thinking. though it we learn their culture,their activities of progressing ahead......... of thinking..... if we take it's searsouly then it is very benifical for us...... every cartoon, every technology developed different ...different way.............

I say that foreign channels are not alone responsible for the destruction of our culture. The most important factor that is a threat to our Indian culture is indians themselves. The attitudes of indians are changing as time passes and we are forgetting our valuable culture. The most important group here is the young generation. They have started adopting everything easily. But at the end of the day it is upto them to what they are getting adopted to.

Foriegn channels show their way of practices which can be watched by us so that we get an idea about their culture, but on the other hand we must not lose our individuality.

Hello friends according to my views foreign channels are not destroying our culture they are just improving our knowledge and shows about their culture.They are not saying to us to follow the culture of their.I think that india has very strong culture from any other part in the world.foreigners are keen to get indian culture not our indian man and i think that indians are mentally very strong than others so there is no point of foreign channels are destroying our culture.If we have control on us than what the channel even they own are not capable of changing our views and teaches us wrong...

Our culture is not that weak to get destroyed by foreign channels. Its a heritage. They are just telecasting their show and its left to us what to accept and what to ignore, what to watch at and what not! There are many foreigners who are trying to follow our Indian culture and we should be proud of it instead of thinking that their channels are destroying our culture.

I never think that foreign channels are destroying the Indian channels. The help us to improve our spoken English and knowledge skills. The best examples are Discovery, Animal planet etc;.
