Well first answering your question that do we need smart cities the answer would be YES. But not now as you might have witnessed That the GDP has decreased to 5.6% from 7% from previous year. And there are lots of serious issue which needs to be addressed first.
India is a huge country it requires a lot of funds for making a city smart and at the same time we have other issues like malnutrition, poverty, illiteratcy, unemployment. So these things need to be sort out first.
Government should emphasize more on smart people instead of smart cities, making people aware of the happening in and around the world. Sooner or later smart city will turn into the dull one if people aren't smart enough.

Hello, one and all!
In my point of view, India requires smart cities but not as much as the majority crowd requires shelter food and clothing. If we talk about facts and figures, about 70 % of the total Indian population do not have their own houses, 40% of the total population do not make enough for food and about 50% of the total population cannot afford to have the kind of clothing one requires for comfortable living (average quality clothing). Food, clothing, and shelter are the three basic human needs.
I think catering with these problems firs should be the priority of Indian government. Once these necessities are fulfilled, then the Government should definitely look forward to infrastructural developments like smart cities.

In my opinion we do need smart cities but on the verge of ill conditions of the village. The main motto is to focus firstly on the development of villages which forms the core of the India. In the current scenario villages are not having lights more dan 18000 villages doenst have power adding to that education should be improved. Government should start programmes for the awareness for the development of rural area.

As per my opinion, we don't need any smart city rather then we need a rural village with all facilities like school, medical, good roads, electric and proper drainage system and drinking water. Employment should be created by government.
Rather then focusing on city if we focus on development of village then automatically we will head towards the achievement of smart city only.

Hello everybody, in my opinion, we don't need smart cities, we need only cities which are well developed but ruling government is not concentrating the minimal requirements of people in a city now a days some cities even don't have proper road transport facilities but that cities declared for smart city how funny is this.

I think that smart city is not necessary for today. Firstly, the development is most important in rural areas and villages. In our country there are many villages has water problem and electricity. Firstly this problem must be removed then we can think for the smart city.

Because, many city people facing a lot of problems daily such as water shortage, scarcity of electricity, traveling on congestion various traffic problems. After converting a smart city gradually reducing their problems. Sometimes Rural people living in a city for working, they need a government school and hospitality.

Hello friends,
In my opinion, we need to have smart cities. First of all, these will help us to know how the cities are doing in a country. For example if you compare Hyderabad with Kolkata you will never feel like Kolkata s better than hyd. But in real Kolkata contributes more GDP to Indian economy.
Second thing the facility that we be avail in smart cities will attract a lot of youth to come and get. Which can also help to improve the economy.
Then people also get security, tech-enabled facilities which can make one's life better.
