The idea of smart city sounds and appears to be whimsical. First and foremost we all need to be on the same page about our country's economic status, wealth distribution, and sustainability. We keep telling and hearing that India is a developing country and it is developing since as long as anyone can remember, here we need a pragmatic approach. We should first concentrate on rural areas that are long due to development, we literally have villages that even today have no access to electricity and has little access to water. Such stats resembles our incompetency to do what should have been done decades ago. And yet here we are talking about building smart cities and bullet trains. Our primary focus needs to be on these pressing matters rather than chasing unrealistic goals.
I mean sure smart city comes with boundless benefits, but it benefits only the elites and the people working for elites.

Yes, we do need a smart city. But first, we need to focus on rural areas where development is must for the overall development of the country. Our country has a number of villages which needs to be provided with basic amenities to fulfill their daily needs. Once the villages are upgraded we will surely become a developed nation making all the cities smart and a better place to live in.

Hello everyone,
I agree majorities opinion, In my perspective, smart cities are very much beneficial to a country like India but, we have to consider the other side too there are many people who are all still failed to meet their basic needs. We have to at least ensure that no-one in our country is suffering from hunger. Developing one side to the highest by leaving the other side to the dark is not at all fine in my view. After eradicating poverty we can implement our dream smart city and that will be actually benefiting.

According to me, first of all we should focus on rural areas. We have to provide them basic facilities like 24 * 7 time power supply, water supply etc. We can tranform that villages into smart cities only if the minor problems which are faced by villagers are overcome.

Hello everyone.
Yes we really need smart city. As per my opinions, it is necessary to develop our city. Smart city means what? It means all people get all facilities related to their health, education, environment etc. But now it is not possible only those people who live in the urban area get all these facilities because they have money to get these facilities as per their need. But in rural areas, these all facilities are not provided because they are really poor to get these facilities so they migrate to urban areas for better life. I thought why they need to migrate in urban areas if all facilities provide them in rural areas also so they can also take advantage of it. They have also right to be a part of Smart city but only migration is not the solution there are so many solutions for that like free campaign in rural areas about latest technology how they can use it in their daily life easily, proper schools and colleges built in their areas give children proper education so they also go ahead in their life and make career. Now, India is developing country but after these changes, India will also a developed country so we really need smart cities.

In my opinion, the smart city is a good idea especially for our developing country India. But before that it would be nice to use that money to create employment opportunities in rural areas, providing basic necessities for people, conducting workshops for people in rural areas to help them get aware of the opportunities available for them to grow their business. I think that this is necessary to provide equality for the growth of all areas so that the dream of creating smart city can be achieved without conflict among people.

Hello everyone. My name is Ketan.
Well, yesterday's caves are today's buildings. Yesterday's buildings are today's skyscrapers. And yesterday's cities are today's SMART cities. According to me, every city from time to time must be promoted and upgraded to the next level and same should be done with Indian cities. Cities should be clean, stuffed with modern amenities, facilities and technologies. It boosts the mentality of its residents. Moreover, in this tough competition era, if our cities won't be smart, then some cities of other country can OUT SMART our cities thus slowing down our national progress. What do you all say?

In my opinion, we really need smart cities because the main aim of this is to provide housing for all. By 2050 70% people will be living in cities. It can provide good infrastructure, water and sanitation facilities, 24*7 electricity supply etc. It would provide smart solutions such as data public data and treatment of water waste. It will enhance the developmental activities of the region. India is expanding rapidly so the emergence of smart cities can provide employment for many.

No doubt, smart cities will help our country a lot to proceed on the path of becoming a developed nation but setting up of smart cities is not an easy task. It requires huge investment both in terms of time as well as money. Instead, of incurring huge expenditure in establishing smart cities the focus should be on the development of backward regions. Imagine a situation where a large number of people are struggling to afford basic facilities and to find suitable jobs for them and on the other hand the country is focusing on setting up of smart cities.
