I'm against this contest because it's distracting the attentions of our sisters. For example, I lived with a girl who was very clever and intelligent in school but later joined the beauty contest. After some time she became perfect but because of the awards she won and other gifts she was given, she ends up dropping school. Since she was not opportune to move from her town to another, she later got discouraged and became a dropout.

Hmm. I'm a Nigerian the different ways you viewed these are the ways two close tribes in Nigeria viewed it. I'm a Yoruba, I hardly see a girl from my side doing this they consider it irrelevant even the extraordinarily beauties among them always seems not to be aware of it existence, they always live this contest to their younger juniors in high school. Ibos they are the closest to us and they live all across the crone and cranny of location but they believed seriously in beauty contest, even among the Yorubas this have now made them believe that they are the most attractive in the country. NO2 the ibos due to their high rate of pageant have made them the most rash in term of ladies esteem why they are the highest in terms of prostitution, husband & wife quarrel, the highest rate on girls displaying their body on the TV and so on I'm not backlashing tribe but I'm just relating it to my environment.

Womanhood is a broad term. Personally, I believe that a womanhood is defined by the woman. To one, it may be a choice to make a home for herself and her family. To dedicate her life to building a home and a family and being happy in that. To another, it may be ambition, drive and the highly coveted corner office. To a third, it may be to have fun, and drink and party and just let go. Neither of these women's are wrong, because although their choices are as different as chalk and cheese, there is one common thread running through them all- they all made a choice. I believe that womanhood is a woman's choice, and it is for her to decide.
It is wrong to say that Beauty pageants degrade womanhood, because the women that make the choice to participate in these pageants are empowered, and not demolished. The concept of Beauty pageants was original to give women a platform to showcase themselves and make a name for themselves. However, today the concept is changing, it is open to all kinds of women from all walks of life to come out and make a name for themselves. It focusses on holistic attributes, and not just body and beauty. The only drawback that I see with beauty pageants in today's day and age is the strict body type clauses. We live in an age that promotes a healthy body type, which should mean that the quintessential tall-leggy-skinny model image should be removed and yield its place to mind over matter. The concept of beauty pageants has evolved to the extent to there being men's beauty pageants as well. My take away here would be that what one chooses to partake in, is his or her own vocation. As long as they are not infringing on someone else's beliefs and rights, and/or hurting themselves there is no problem. If a woman chooses to participate in a beauty pageant, whatever her reasons, she should be able to, because no one stops a man from becoming a househusband. At the end, it all boils down to choice- and whatever the choice is, no one has a right to question it.

Hello.
I'm Sharath. Womanhood is a very cheap activity to earn money. In my view, they are the things which have been pulling the young stars towards it.
Please, don't conduct any beauty contests. Because it is a type of racial discrimination in the view of law.
Thank you for everyone who read this.

I think that beauty contests are somewhat dangerous to young children who are attracted more. If they are keeping interest upon this programs they spoil their career, and there is no for with stand upon themselves in their future life. So I want to say that these are useless things doing when are leisure. So please eradicate this and young children.
Thank you for giving me this golden opportunity.

No way it degrades anyone. If you are a woman, you have every right to celebrate your womanhood. Moreover, it is not just about your beauty but also about your personality as a whole. Some contests have shunned the swimsuits and have included points for academics and professional performances. GWF Beauty contest recently introduced such a point system.

Hello everyone,
According to my point of view, beauty contests are not degrading womanhood. Beauty contests are just a competition to Jude who is gorgeous and intelligent. I think womanhood deals with traditional values of a woman. So to conclude we can say beauty contests are not degrading womanhood.
Thank all.

Firstly, the beauty contests are about the beauty and the talent of the women in front of all her competitor. It is the courage of the women to show her beauty and her talent in front of all the public present over there. It is simply a beauty competition, not a womanhood matter. The womanhood of a woman is judged by her care for others and overall talent to deal with the life. So the beauty contests do not degrade womanhood.

I don't think that beauty contest is degrading womanhood. Fist of all what actually a womanhood mean? Womanhood is the quality traditionally possessed by women.
Before going to the traditional qualities of women I would like to say about a beauty contest. So beauty contest is a place or platform for young ladies to show their beauty and talent. And the one who is more beautiful and more intelligent is the winner or we can say beauty with brain wins. This contest consist of various round including swimming suit round, which is the most in question round and some says the most vulgar round. And in some contest is not even included but at the national level, it is there. Just think, the women who are participating in swimming suit round they are well acquainted with swimming or swimming suit and they are not swimming in private. So how girl wearing a swimming suit in a contest will degrade womanhood but not swimming in public.

The topic seems to be true at first sight, but when deeply pondered, it will be found that it depends on the woman participating. If she participates without any external additions or supplements and strives to express her personality honestly in front of everyone then is good!
But if she just adds on external beauty enhancers, learns some BIG GLEAMING words and then dreams to be at the top, then it is a waste.
The beauty contests aim to identify the most effective personality out of the thousands standing at the corner, not only in terms of external beauty but also in terms of their confidence towards facing the world.
Some women leave their families and all beloved ones to enter into such shows. But this is not womanhood! Womanhood is when you manage your family, your work, your time. Such women show their artificial confidence (which they do not really have) , and once successful, forget all behind. They forget their parents, their relatives!
In my opinion, the beauty contests must be based on how you maintain your body, and also how you maintain an equilibrium between every part of your life - like job, family, children. Because THIS is true womanhood and not that superficial living which has no real significance!
