We required only 30 and above so we minus 9 (that is above 40 in physics) from 32 (that is above 30 in physics) we got 23.
Then 23 + 27 = 50. Therefore, 60% of 50 is 30. Above 30, the numbers of students are 32.
So, the answer is 32.

Answer is correct, because they said at least 60%; if we consider 40 mark column then they have 80%;and if that of 30 column is 60% (at least) ;Hence correct.

If we can assume 50 as 100% so our 1st step is 1st calculate the percentage of 50 how much see below it.

I think even the person who scored 40 above are to be taken into consideration as the question has not mentioned that even 40+ students are included in 30+ students.

Question is asked that at-least 60% is needed for pursuing higher studies. So only least percentage i.e. 30% should be considered.

We have given marks out of 50 and given at least 60% marks in Physics are required for pursuing higher studies in Physics so 60% of 50 = (60x50/100) = 30.
And No.of students scoring 30 and above marks in Physics are 32 so answer is 32.
