South Korea became the first country in the world to enact a comprehensive legal framework dedicated to artificial intelligence governance through the AI Basic Act. The law establishes clear rules for the development and deployment of AI systems, particularly those classified as high-impact in sensitive sectors such as healthcare, finance, transport, and public safety. It emphasises mandatory human oversight to reduce risks and enhance accountability. Additionally, the legislation requires companies to label AI-generated content and disclose AI usage, aiming to curb misinformation and strengthen public trust in emerging technologies.
