New Delhi hosted the inauguration of the 10th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) at Yashobhoomi on October 8, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event, which is recognised as Asia’s largest digital technology forum. The congress focused on next-generation technologies, including 5G, 6G, artificial intelligence networks, semiconductors, quantum communication, and electronics manufacturing. IMC 2026 attracted over 1.5 lakh attendees from more than 100 countries, featuring more than 500 partners, 600 startups, and 900 thought leaders. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India, highlighting India’s ambitions in digital connectivity and telecommunications innovation.

October is observed globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) every year, from October 1 to October 31. The campaign aims to promote early detection, timely treatment, and equitable access to quality healthcare for people affected by breast cancer. The official theme for 2026 is “Every story is unique, every journey matters.” The month is also widely known as “Pink October,” reflecting the global effort to spread awareness and support patients and their families. The pink ribbon is the internationally recognised symbol of breast cancer awareness. The observance was established in October 1985 through a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries.

Max Verstappen of Oracle Red Bull Racing won the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on October 8, 2026. The victory marked his first win of the 2026 season. The race was the 16th round of the 2026 Formula One World Championship and marked the return of Formula One racing to the Sepang circuit for the first time since 2017. Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes finished second, while Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari secured third place. Charles Leclerc finished fourth, and Isack Hadjar took fifth place. Verstappen competes under the Dutch flag.

Sikkim will benefit from the ₹993.64 crore approved by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on October 8, 2026, for the development and widening of National Highway-10 (NH-10). The project involves upgrading the Rangpo to Ranipool section into a two-lane corridor, including tunnels, viaducts, bridges, and slope-protection measures to address landslide-prone areas. The highway is vital for transporting defence personnel and military supplies, improving tourism, and facilitating the movement of agricultural and horticultural produce. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is responsible for the project. NH-10 connects Siliguri in West Bengal with Gangtok in Sikkim.

Argentina participated in the joint Indo-Argentine Army Mountaineering Expedition alongside the Indian Army in 2026. Led by Lieutenant Colonel Chirag Chatterjee, the expedition successfully scaled Mt Abi Gamin (7,355 metres) on September 17 and Mt Kamet (7,756 metres) on September 21. The team consisted of 35 members, including 25 Indian Army personnel and 10 Argentine Army personnel. The expedition was flagged off from Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, on August 21, 2026. It marked the third joint mountaineering collaboration between India and Argentina, following earlier expeditions to Mt Aconcagua in January 2025 and Mt Kun in August 2025.

EyeROV, a marine robotics and artificial intelligence deep-tech startup headquartered in Kochi, Kerala, delivered the first two units of the EyeROV TROUT to the Indian Navy on October 7, 2026. The EyeROV TROUT is India’s first military-grade underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), developed under the iDEX DISC 7 SPRINT Challenge to promote indigenous defence technology. The vehicle is designed for underwater inspection, surveillance, reconnaissance, maritime security, search and recovery, and detection in challenging underwater conditions. It qualified through the Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval) and underwent rigorous testing. The delivery supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, strengthening India’s capabilities in advanced marine robotics.
