IAF Sarang Team arrived in Egypt on September 6, 2026, to participate in the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow. The event is scheduled from September 8 to 10 at El Alamein International Airport. The Sarang Helicopter Display Team operates the indigenously designed and manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv. Known as the world’s only five-helicopter display team, it showcases India’s aerospace capabilities through advanced aerial manoeuvres, including the signature “Dolphin Leap” and the newly introduced “Spot Stall Turn.” The participation also aims to strengthen defence and diplomatic ties between India and Egypt.

Dinesh Sharma has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by President Droupadi Murmu. The appointment was announced through a Rashtrapati Bhavan notification issued on September 5, 2026. Sharma, a senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He will replace Admiral D K Joshi (retd.), who had served as the Lieutenant Governor since October 8, 2017. Sharma’s new role involves overseeing the administration of the strategically important Union Territory.

Lucknow hosted the national workshop on the SUMAN Roadmap 2030, organised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on September 2–3, 2026. The roadmap aims to achieve zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths by 2030 by strengthening the continuum of care. It focuses on high-priority states and districts with high maternal mortality while also providing a framework for all States and Union Territories. The workshop also featured the launch of Birth Waiting Home guidelines, IEC materials, and a dedicated video to support the implementation of SUMAN initiatives and improve maternal healthcare outcomes.

Vinaya Prakash Singh was re-elected unopposed as the Secretary-General of the Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) on September 4, 2026. The election was held during the 14th APPU Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. A 1988-batch Indian Postal Service officer, Singh, secured a second consecutive four-year term, which will begin in January 2027 and conclude in December 2030. He first assumed the position in January 2023 after being elected at the 13th APPU Congress in 2022. The APPU is headquartered in Bangkok and has 32 member countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

Chennai hosted the India Valves 2026 national conference, where Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan officially launched the India Valve Registry on September 5, 2026. The registry is a collaborative multicentre initiative designed to securely collect de-identified real-world data on transcatheter valve interventions. Its primary goal is to generate India-specific clinical evidence that can support better medical decision-making for valvular and structural heart diseases. The initiative also supports the broader national vision of achieving a Viksit Bharat and Swasth Bharat by 2047 through the development of a self-reliant healthcare ecosystem based on indigenous medical data.

Japan will host the first-ever men's T20I match between India and Japan on September 22, 2026. The historic fixture will be played at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture. The match was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Japan Cricket Association (JCA). Both India and Japan are also participating in the men's cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2026, which is being hosted by Japan. India will enter the Asian Games tournament directly at the quarter-final stage, while Japan will begin in the group stages.

9.99% is the maximum aggregate stake that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved for the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to acquire in ICICI Bank. The approval allows LIC to purchase up to 9.99% of ICICI Bank’s paid-up share capital or voting rights, subject to applicable regulatory conditions. The clearance, issued on September 4, 2026, remains valid for one year. However, the approval itself does not mean LIC has already acquired the additional shares. LIC must act on the permission within the specified validity period.

Axis Bank partnered with fintech company Scapia to launch a co-branded travel credit card on September 4, 2026. The card is designed for travel-focused consumers and is available on both Mastercard and RuPay networks. It offers rewards of up to 10% on eligible everyday spending and up to 20% in Scapia Coins on travel bookings through the Scapia app. Other benefits include zero forex markup, Smart Forex technology, premium airport lounge access, and dining and retail privileges. The partnership represents Scapia’s third banking collaboration and expands its travel-focused financial services offering.

Jodhpur is the venue for Exercise Veer Guardian 2026, the second edition of the bilateral air exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). The exercise is being conducted at Air Force Station Jodhpur from September 9 to September 22, 2026. It focuses on strengthening interoperability, operational synergy, and mutual understanding between the two air forces. The Japanese contingent arrived in India aboard two C-2 transport aircraft of the JASDF, which landed at Jodhpur. The exercise provides personnel from both countries an opportunity to train together and exchange professional knowledge.

Drogo Aerospace is responsible for designing and manufacturing UAV platforms and associated hardware under the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Munitions India Limited (MIL) on September 4, 2026. The partnership aims to develop indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and loitering munition systems, strengthening India’s domestic defence manufacturing capabilities. MIL will contribute expertise in warhead technologies, munitions design, explosive filling, and fuzing systems. The collaboration also includes the development of the Delta Wing Kamikaze loitering munition, designed for one-way attack missions with a range of up to 1,000 km and a 20–30 kg warhead capacity.
