IIT Guwahati developed a nutrient-assisted two-stage cultivation process designed to enhance carbon dioxide capture and bioenergy production using microalgae. In the first stage, microalgal cultures are grown under 15% CO2 to support rapid growth and carbon availability. In the second stage, the CO2 concentration is reduced to 5%, while calcium and phosphorus are added to stabilise pH and improve biomass aggregation. The process achieved 25.7% higher biomass production and 35.4% higher CO2 fixation. Calcium also enabled auto-sedimentation, resulting in 98.46% biomass recovery efficiency and reducing energy requirements for downstream separation.

Gandhinagar was the location associated with the launch of the Gramin Gyan Setu app, an initiative aimed at integrating rural libraries in Gujarat. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the app through video conferencing on August 12, 2026. The project seeks to interconnect 752 libraries within the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency and provide rural children and youth access to a collective pool of around 2.80 lakh books. It covers villages across the Gandhinagar, Kalol, and Sanand assembly constituencies and uses a hub-and-spoke model. Specialised vans funded through MPLAD funds will visit villages every fortnight to facilitate book distribution and collection.

Cochin Shipyard Ltd delivered MS Maria, the second of eight multi-purpose vessels in the HS EcoFreighter series, to German firm HS Schiffahrts UG on August 12, 2026. The vessel has a 7,000 DWT capacity and is classified as an Ice-class vessel. It features the “Groot Cross-Bow” design and a transom stern for improved speed and fuel efficiency. Designed by Groot Ship Design of the Netherlands, the vessel was constructed at Cochin Shipyard Ltd according to Det Norske Veritas classification rules. CSL is India’s largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility and is headquartered in Kochi, Kerala.

Kenya strengthened its bilateral relations with India through high-level parliamentary engagement between Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Kenyan Speaker Rt. Hon. Dr Moses M. Wetang'ula on August 13, 2026. The discussions focused on parliamentary cooperation, inclusive development, democracy, and human-centric progress. Both countries emphasised regular exchanges of parliamentary delegations and the formation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups. Kenya also recognised Persons of Indian Origin as an indigenous community and supported India’s candidature for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. The countries further discussed sharing India’s experience in using Artificial Intelligence for greater transparency and efficiency in parliamentary functioning.

India aims to scale its nuclear energy capacity to 100 GWe by 2047 under the Nuclear Energy Mission announced in the Union Budget 2025-26. The roadmap focuses on developing a self-reliant nuclear energy ecosystem and encouraging private sector participation. India also plans to develop and operationalise at least five indigenous Small Modular Reactors by 2033, including the 220 MWe Bharat Small Modular Reactor and the 55 MWe SMR-55. The SHANTI Act, 2025, provides a legislative framework for private participation while strengthening nuclear safety regulation. The long-term strategy also follows India’s three-stage nuclear programme and promotes nuclear medicine infrastructure.

Larsen and Toubro secured an order worth up to ₹15,000 crore from U.S.-based cloud platform Together AI to host an AI data centre using NVIDIA’s high-performance chips. The order was secured by L&T’s AI infrastructure subsidiary, LTN Compute, and is valued between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore. The data centre is being hosted at the Vyoma.AI unit on its Chennai campus and will feature 10,000 NVIDIA B300 chips, making it the largest such deployment in India. The facility will support AI inference, fine-tuning, and training for Together AI’s cloud platform.

Bank of America agreed to acquire a 49.9% stake in Jio Credit, the lending arm of Jio Financial Services, for ₹18,268 crore. Under the transaction structure, the American banking major will initially acquire a 26.5% equity interest through preferential allotment. Its stake is expected to eventually increase to 49.9% through the exercise of warrants, subject to regulatory and statutory approvals. The transaction reflects growing foreign investment in India’s financial sector. Jio Financial Services was established as a separate entity in 2023 following its demerger from Reliance Industries and operates across digital lending, insurance broking, and payments.

Malaysia hosted the bilateral air exercise Udara Shakti 2026, which commenced on August 13, 2026, at Subang Air Base. The exercise involves the Indian Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, focusing on joint field training and Subject Matter Expert exchanges. It aims to enhance operational learning, share best practices, and improve interoperability between the two air forces. The exercise strengthens defence cooperation and professional engagement between India and Malaysia. It is distinct from Exercise Pitch Black 2026, a multinational air exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force in Northern Australia, involving personnel and aircraft from several countries.

Telangana will have specialised training centres established by the Indian Army across various district headquarters to prepare local youth for nationwide Army recruitment drives. The announcement was made on August 12, 2026, by Lieutenant General C Rajesh Pushkar, GOC-in-C of the Southern Command, following a meeting with state leadership at the MCRHRD Institute in Hyderabad. The centres will also create awareness about career opportunities in the armed forces. In addition, the Army will support Telangana’s disaster response framework by assisting with rescue, evacuation, and rehabilitation during floods and other natural calamities.
