Kumar Shanker has been appointed as the Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), one of India's leading city gas distribution companies. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL), a joint venture involving GAIL, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and the Maharashtra government. He played a significant role in implementing the Unified Tariff for India's National Gas Grid System, a major reform in the natural gas sector. IGL, headquartered in New Delhi, is a joint venture of GAIL and BPCL and is recognised as the largest city-gas distributor in North India.

Tamil Nadu launched the Singappen Special Force as a dedicated initiative to improve the safety and security of women and children across the state. The force was inaugurated by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at Rajarathinam Stadium in Chennai in the presence of Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal. The specialised unit is tasked with monitoring and patrolling public places, identifying vulnerable locations, preventing harassment, and increasing police visibility. Manipur's first Exclusive Special Court dedicated to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was inaugurated in Thoubal district. Located at the Thoubal District Court Complex in Khangabok, the court has been established to strengthen the state's justice delivery system and ensure faster handling of cases investigated by the NIA. The inauguration was carried out by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The creation of a dedicated NIA court is expected to improve judicial efficiency in dealing with terrorism-related and other serious national security cases. Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh has been chosen for the development of a 250 MW solar power project on vacant defence land. Approved by the Ministry of Defence on June 9, 2026, the project will cover around 850 acres and will include a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), making it the first large-scale renewable energy project of its kind on defence land in India. NTPC Limited will develop the project through a competitive bidding process. The initiative aims to enhance energy security for defence establishments, promote the use of renewable energy, and reduce dependence on conventional grid power, contributing to sustainable infrastructure development.

Fitch Ratings revised India's GDP growth forecast for FY27 to 6.4%, down from its earlier estimate of 6.7%. The revision was attributed to factors such as geopolitical tensions and rising global energy costs, which could affect economic activity and investment. Fitch also projected that growth would improve to 6.7% in FY28 as energy-related pressures ease before stabilising at 6.4% in FY29. Despite the downgrade, India is expected to remain one of the fastest-growing major economies. The report also highlighted higher crude oil price estimates, inflation concerns, and expectations of a policy rate increase by the Reserve Bank of India.

Han Seong-sook was nominated by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung as the new Prime Minister on June 09, 2026. She currently serves as the Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and is the first female Prime Minister nominee of the Lee administration. Haryana signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) on June 8, 2026, to implement the CAQM framework aimed at reducing urban road dust and promoting sustainable infrastructure development. The initiative focuses on the National Capital Region (NCR), where road dust is a major contributor to particulate air pollution. The project includes developing road space standards, adopting greening measures, integrating Road Asset Management Systems (RAMS), and using innovative technologies for sustainable road construction. The collaboration involves CSIR-CRRI, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, under the guidance of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

The new Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) was launched in Lucknow to strengthen weather forecasting and meteorological services across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and adjoining regions. The centre is part of broader efforts under Mission Mausam to improve high-frequency and impact-based weather forecasting. APEDA facilitated the first export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai on June 7, 2026, marking an important achievement for India's agricultural export sector. Tezpur Litchi is known for its distinctive quality and includes varieties such as Bombaya, Bilati, Elaichi, Piyaji, and Sahi. The initiative was undertaken to expand international market access for farmers and strengthen agricultural exports from the North Eastern region.
