World Peace and Understanding Day 2026 is observed on February 23, commemorating the first Rotary meeting held in Chicago in 1905 by Paul P. Harris. This historic event marked the foundation of Rotary International, which later grew into one of the world’s largest humanitarian service networks operating in over 200 countries and regions. Celebrated during World Understanding Month, the day promotes ethical leadership, international cooperation, peacebuilding, and service above self. It emphasises dialogue, empathy, and collaborative action to address global challenges such as poverty, disease, inequality, and conflict, thereby fostering sustainable harmony worldwide.

Bihar has been officially declared Naxal-free following the surrender of the last armed Maoist, Suresh Koda, in Munger. This marks the end of a long-standing insurgency that began in the 1970s and once severely affected the state, with as many as 23 districts impacted in 2012. World Pangolin Day 2026 is observed on February 21, which falls on the third Saturday of February. Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals in the world due to illegal trade in their scales and meat. Reports have identified 74 nations and 178 distinct trade routes connected to pangolin trafficking, with major corridors such as Nigeria to Vietnam and Mozambique to Malawi. The day aims to spread awareness, strengthen conservation initiatives, and encourage global cooperation to curb illegal wildlife trade.

India’s total forex reserves reached a historic high of $725.727 Billion for the week ended February 13. This significant milestone reflects strong macroeconomic stability and effective currency management by the Reserve Bank of India. The surge was primarily driven by an increase in Foreign Currency Assets (FCA), which stood at $573.603 billion, and a substantial rise in gold reserves, which reached $128.466 billion. Additionally, Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) contributed to the overall reserves. Kerala has proposed the Nativity Card Bill to introduce a permanent photo identity card for individuals born in the state or those with Keralite ancestry.
