World Pangolin Day 2026 is observed on February 21, which falls on the third Saturday of February. This international observance highlights the importance of protecting pangolins, unique mammals belonging to the order Pholidota and commonly known as scaly anteaters. Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals in the world due to illegal trade in their scales and meat. Reports have identified 74 nations and 178 distinct trade routes connected to pangolin trafficking, with major corridors such as Nigeria to Vietnam and Mozambique to Malawi. The day aims to spread awareness, strengthen conservation initiatives, and encourage global cooperation to curb illegal wildlife trade.
