The Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has collaborated with MapmyIndia to implement DIGIPIN, India’s new digital addressing system. DIGIPIN, short for Digital PIN, assigns unique geocodes to every address, enabling precise geolocation, seamless navigation, and efficient service delivery. MapmyIndia, as India’s leading geospatial technology provider, will supply base maps, integrate real-time address generation, and embed DIGIPIN navigation tools into its Mappls platform. This initiative is expected to transform logistics, e-governance, and digital service ecosystems by offering citizens accurate addresses, businesses optimised supply chains, and governments improved planning and public service delivery.

National Small Industry Day is observed every year on August 30 to honour and recognise the vital contributions of small-scale industries in India’s growth journey. These industries are considered the backbone of the economy, as they significantly contribute to GDP, exports, employment generation, and inclusive development. The day has been celebrated since 2001 following a government initiative that sought to strengthen small businesses through better infrastructure, timely payments, and technology access. Observing this day highlights the importance of promoting entrepreneurship, preserving cultural skills, and bridging rural-urban divides in India’s industrial ecosystem.

Infosys has partnered with Mastercard to strengthen global cross-border payment solutions by integrating Mastercard Move into its Finacle banking platform. Mastercard Move is a portfolio of advanced money transfer capabilities that supports real-time, secure, and scalable transactions across more than 200 countries and 150 currencies. By embedding this system within Infosys Finacle, financial institutions can reduce integration complexities, improve payment speed and reliability, and enhance risk management. This collaboration highlights the growing role of digital payments in banking, while also supporting the increasing global demand for remittances, particularly in Asia, where India is a leading beneficiary of cross-border money flows.

India’s GDP growth in Q1 FY26 stood at 7.8%, marking a strong performance that exceeded both RBI and market expectations. This growth was significantly higher than the 6.5% recorded in Q1 FY25, showcasing resilience in the economy despite global uncertainties. The services sector emerged as the top performer with 9.3% growth, followed by robust rebounds in manufacturing and construction. Agriculture also played a vital role, growing at 3.7% due to a favorable monsoon. Strong government spending and increased investments further boosted the economy, while private consumption remained relatively subdued. This growth reflects India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services firm, has launched a new Artificial Intelligence and Services Transformation Unit to strengthen its AI-led business strategy. This unit aims to consolidate TCS’ existing AI capabilities, create domain-specific AI solutions, drive IT operational efficiency, and enhance partnerships in the AI ecosystem. Amit Kapur, a seasoned TCS leader with over 20 years of experience and prior head of the UK & Ireland business, has been appointed as the unit’s head. The move positions TCS as a frontrunner in India’s IT industry, setting a benchmark for rivals while accelerating AI adoption for global clients.

The Nuakhai festival is one of the most important cultural and agrarian celebrations of Odisha, particularly in the western region of the state. Observed annually on the panchami tithi of the Bhadraba month, it symbolises the first consumption of the newly harvested rice after offering it to the deity. The festival emphasises gratitude for agricultural abundance, family unity, and community bonding. Reliance Industries is spearheading one of the world’s largest clean energy transformations by setting up massive solar, hydrogen, and battery gigafactories in Jamnagar and Kutch. The company’s solar project in Kutch, covering 550,000 acres (about three times the size of Singapore), is designed to become a national powerhouse capable of meeting nearly 10% of India’s electricity needs. Alongside, Reliance is establishing battery and electrolyser gigafactories to drive large-scale renewable energy production. These initiatives not only position Reliance as a leader in clean energy but also aim to make India a global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana was recently approved by the Bihar government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The scheme is designed to empower women by providing an initial financial grant of ₹10,000 directly into their bank accounts, ensuring transparency through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). After six months, successful beneficiaries may receive further assistance of up to ₹2 lakh to expand their ventures. It encourages women to engage in small-scale businesses such as dairy, handicrafts, and retail, while also creating local market spaces for them. The initiative aims to enhance livelihoods, reduce migration, and boost rural entrepreneurship in Bihar.

At the Zurich Diamond League Final 2025, Germany’s Julian Weber emerged victorious in the men’s javelin event with a commanding performance, registering two throws over 90m, including his winning 91.51m effort. The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is observed annually on August 30, drawing attention to one of the most serious violations of human rights. Enforced disappearance involves the abduction or detention of individuals by state authorities or their agents, followed by a refusal to acknowledge their whereabouts, leaving them outside legal protection. This practice causes immense suffering not only to the victims but also to their families and communities. The United Nations General Assembly officially designated August 30 for this observance in 2010, with the aim of promoting accountability, justice, and global awareness of such grave violations.
