When two non-collinear members meet at a truss joint and there is no external applied load or reaction acting on that joint then both members are zero force members.

CB &CD are zero force members. When two non-collinear members are meeting at a joint and if there is no external load on that joint, then force in those members becomes Zero.

There is no vertical force that's why Zero.

Isn't this truss unstable as force is being applied on members and not on the joints?

What is the force in ED?

There is no horizontal force conmponent on the truss. So at joint C, summation of force on x axis is zero. Therefore both member BC and AB are equal and are zero.
