According to me, for the straight cut switch, "For this switch, the stock rail is joggled near the toe of the switch during manufacture to fit the toe are flush with the stock rail. The joggled length is usually 15cm".

At the rail joint due to expension in rail if there is no sufficient gap a very small we shape formed out side at joint is called kink.

Sometimes, in rail endpoint of adjacent rail slightly remove form it's position that defect called kink.
