Kink mean deflection of rail (newly joined one at the end). It's another name is the shoulder.

At the rail joint due to expension in rail if there is no sufficient gap a very small we shape formed out side at joint is called kink.

According to me, for the straight cut switch, "For this switch, the stock rail is joggled near the toe of the switch during manufacture to fit the toe are flush with the stock rail. The joggled length is usually 15cm".
